Tuners
« on: July 20, 2009, 02:57:37 PM »

Whats a good tuner to use. Talked to the dealer they said I'm looking to spend about $800.00 dollars, installed and dynoed. Is that good? I have a 09 SE Ultra. I don't know anything about them.

The order that I would choose them in:

1. TTS Mastertune (manufacturer of the original Screaming Eagle Race Tuner)  www.mastertune.net
2. Power Commander V (five)  www.powercommander.com
3. Super SERT (Harley's new product)
4. Thundermax  Zippers  www.zippersperformance.com

Is this something you do your self or let a shop do it.

Installed a TTS myself and couldn't be happier.

This is easily a do it yourself project if you take the time to do a little self education, do a search, there is plenty of info on this site.

Good luck !

PC V with Auto Tune attachment no need for a Dyno per DynoJet Research.

only option I would recommend is the TTS, did myself, if you have decent computer skills it's easy.
the PC and Fuelpak systems use smoke and mirrors to get your bike to  run well. TTS and SSERT are the real deal. you DO NOT want to install the SERT yourself, warrantee issues. need this done by HD. TTS does not leave a footprint on your ECM so not a warrantee issue.
and when you are done and you got an extra 400 laying around, go ahead and dynotune it as long as the operator can work with your specific tuner.

Are you going to install/tune it yourself?? If not and you are going to have someone else (H-D shop or independent) go with whatever they recommend more then likely this will be the one they are most proficient in.

I just installed the S/E supertuner in my bike. Had it dyno tuned also. It runs like 2 different machines. I had  TERMIAL VELOCITY lll installed before. My bike would decel pop/snap/crackle. I also noticed it is running about 10-15 degrees cooler also.......sweet

be carefull: "full warranty" is granted by H-d on the part and it's software itself, including the maps delivered with it if matching your bike according to part list. No warranty from the company if "tampered" with, i.e. if some unruly person tries to do what the part is built for and writes an appropriate map for exactly your bike or if the part list is not exactly matching (for instance if anything else as SE-slip-ons built on as will be most likely with almost all bikes in good old Germany ;)). In the latter case you are left with claims against your dealer or whoever did the "tampering" only (§ 633 II BGB).

As is the case if your dealer or anybody else sells and tunes by any other device, be it PC V, TTS or whatsoever. Of course there is the little issue how H-D wants to proof there was a PC on the bike if removed or a map loaded that has been replaced before claiming their "warranty" ...

Ähm, which dealer are you talking about? There is not one single dealer in Germany who has any record whatsoever for dyno-tuning with the Race- or Supertuner. That's official Mörfelden info 5 days old

So if your dealer said he wants to do the dyno runs in october he meant he hopes to have someone till then who might - or might not - know how to do this

I have seen the software on the dealers computer and have seen my supertuner lying in their storage .
HD wants to start lessons for the technics in germmany how to handle the tuning with the supertuner and will warranty original harley engine components , that`s what i have been told yesterday by my dealer . ( HD Rhein Neckar Ludwigshafen Ruchheim ) .

TTS hands down, I has a couiple of extra tables that let the tuner really dial the bike in better and they say that when the HD digi tech scans the system that it can't tell if you have a tuner..... We'll see on that one, gotta get an ABS upgrade to the Ultra and will get a print out like i did on the RG. I showed Tuner but it's a SEST...Stay tuned. I'll post the sheet
