Hidden storage in SERG saddle bag extension
« on: July 23, 2009, 03:12:29 PM »

Has anybody thought about, or actually cut out into the extensions on the bottom of the saddle bag? I was thinking about using a dremel to cut out a hole in the bottom of the bag to gain access. It's probably not a lot of room but it could be a good place for a rain suit or whatever.

:stop:    The Saddlebag Extension Kit on your SERG is just a cover.   :stop:    There is no "room" for anything!!  Note photo below.  If you cut into the bottom of your saddle bag, you'll simple ruin it.  The following is from the HD web site:

Saddlebag Extension Kit

Give your saddlebags the "tail dragger" look. Originally featured on the '09 CVO™ Road Glide®, these extensions visually stretch the saddlebags and wrap around the exhaust for a true "low rider®" look. Manufactured from the same durable ABS material as the Original Equipment saddlebags, these extensions are ready to prime, paint and attach to the saddlebag bottoms. No filler or re-painting of the Original Equipment bag is necessary. Finish the look with available Color-Matched Saddlebag Filler Strips (sold separately).

HD #90999-09  $299.95.

Eh?

As others have stated.....  don't do it!   There is nothing there, no room to be gained.

Oh, well then maybe he could rig a little tube coming up from the extensions.

The 2010 SESG uses the room in the extensions of the saddlebags , they modified them for having more room .But it is not very much .

From what I've seen on the pictures here and there, MOCO made new bag molds for the SESG and they are now a 1-piece molded bag.  The '09 SERG bags are the old short style with an added valance for the low slung look.

With the new 1-piece bag mold, I'm sure they could pick up a few inches here and there.  Even if it's for the round stuff you carry, tool bag, etc, it's added space.  Apparently they think they're going to be able to sell them aftermarket P&A catalog etc.

I like them regardless.
