Billet Cover for the Inner Primary .......HELP
« on: July 25, 2009, 12:16:06 PM »

I seen a post awhile back about a billet cover that goes on the primary as you look from the right side of the bike behind the rear cylinder towards the primary. Someone makes a chrome billet cover for that area and I cannot find it. Can anyone help?

Thank you

Twolane had one and lost it I think. If he doesn't see this you might send him a p.m.

Jim (HD-Dude) sells them.  Came in two versions.  A glue on and a screw on.  Though the screw on required the inner primary to be off the bike so you could drill and a tap a couple of new holes.

My glued on piece didn't (stay glued).  Others had better luck though.  Think the part was from Billet Boys but don't know that for sure.  Send a message to Jim to see if he's still offering the part.

Thank you

Will send HD-Dude an email

Others had no problem when I tried mine.  Though I stuck it on three different times with different adhesives including JB the last time.  All that before finally losing it going down the road.

If several work and one doesn't the problem is more likely with the one.  Whether my inner primary's mating surface isn't a flat plane or I never got it clean enough or whatever.  But I'm the only one I remember having any great problem with it.  So can't blame the part.

Well, I've never installed mine.....after 2Lane had his not stick.....I've still been accumulating adhesives in anticipation of finally sticking it on.  If I had it to do over, I'd probably have gotten the 'screw-on' model, but.... let me know if you stick it on and it stays and what you used as 'stick-um'.  ;) har!  :drink: spyder

I still have them, Still have the original on my own bike as well that has not come off. I used Pematex Silicone adhesive to hold it on.

Great pics Jim.  How did you prepare the surfaces prior to glueing?  spyder

It's been a long time since putting it on but i typically use 99% rubbing alcohol or a 3M adhesion promotor.

Did you 'scuff-up' the chrome?  :nixweiss: spyder

Thanks.  I'll try and over-come my fear of adding too much chrome  ::) and put it on!  har!  :drink: spyder

Don't be afraid.... ;D    Just be sure to let the adhesive cure completely before riding the bike, may be 24-48hrs depending on the type used.

Where do you get the 3M adhesion promotor?

Is it a tape?

Thank you
