Sure did.  I just put a check in the "con" column of the SEUG.  "Stereo should be replaced". ;)

It is amazing to me, if I am correct, that no one has asked what type of riding you mostly do. Will you be riding mostly two up, long distances, with lots of luggage? Or most often by yourself, shorter trips, not too much luggage? I think having to change the set up all the time, is something not many people actually do. Hence selecting the bike with the comfort and capability most suited to your riding is key. And I do like the paint better on the SESG. There you go.

Ride safely,
Louis

Agreed but on the topic of capacity you can do a lot with Tbags and a nice rack. (I mean luggage rack)

Let us know what you actually bought!

Since my wife started to ride her own bike I also mostly ride on my own. I have really enjoyed 08 Duracell RK. I am planning to put a deposit for a Spiced Rum colored SESG. I believe this color looks great. If I need a lot of luggage I lately prefer taking and additional bag on my scoot like Kuryakin Global Travel bag (I think thats the way its called) rather then having a tourpak. I will also upgrade my audio system to Hawg Wired, add Zummo 660, ipod (amazed HD still does not have a factory solution for ipod). Surely will change my pipes to BUBs and add power commander. I am sure the list will grow....

I'm currently trying to make the same decision. Modify up an SESG or make the TP detachable on the SEUC. I would think that even though the LED blinkers from the SESG are not available on-line, they should be available over the parts counter to add to the SEUC. Add the bag skirts with the LED taillight to the SEUC and you'll have a very close looking rear end to the SESG.

I personally prefer the Red/Black flame job on the SEUC over the somewhat dull looking paint jobs on the SESG. I think if you replace the heated seat on the SEUC with one of the new custom harley seats with red/flames and gray border, you'll have a better looking SESG than the SESG from Harley. Plus you'll have the advantage of heated grips, better upfront lighting, highway pegs and what I think are more attractive wheels on the SEUC.

The SESG wheels with black rims and chrome spokes just doesn't work for me. Looks like its trying too hard to be a gangster bike IMO.

To upgrade from the SESG you'd need to add a detachable tourpak, heated grips, lowers, passing lights with SE bracket, highway pegs and you still won't have the better paint job on the SEUC (IMO). Seems to me like too much trouble to get the SESG to be a convertible Ultra and alot easier (and I think a better value) to make a convertible SESG out of the Ultra.

It is just a habit to type in caps - I had a lady at the local newspaper once reply back to me that it felt like I was YELLING - I replied YOU KNOW I AM FROM NC - IT MAKES MY ACCENT SOUND BETTER  ;D

Good One on the Hearing Aid :D :D

All good points and even thought there is a $5000 difference you get it back when you trade the Ultra but unlikely if you bolt it on to the SESG

First, thank you all. Again and again you show why this is the best board online. The members of this board really know their stuff.

I went with the SE Street Glide. I have lived this long (20 years on HDs alone) without a tour-pak or lowers for my 1-2 long distance rides a year. Right now, the factory website doesn't show lowers or a tour-pak in CVO colors, but I bet they show up later.

I'll be getting a Spiced Rum SESG and adding a Hawg Wired system (thanks for all the great advice from another post), adding a Zumo 660, a detachable rack and some other odds and ends and going riding. While I love the paint on the new CVO Ultra's, they really are different bikes from the FLHXSEs...

I will really miss my '02 SERK, but there's only so much money and so much room in the garage.

If any of you are ever in Colorado and need a tour guide or any info at all, just let me know.

Oh to have a bigger garage and more money (sigh).

CONGRATS and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!

My thought is to go w/the Ultra and strip down for the following reasons...

SESG has moustache highway bar if you want to add lowers you'll have to change that to a regular bar (I believe this to be correct :nixweiss:).

Rear passenger has pegs instead of floorboards (floorboards will be more comfortable if you planning on having a BSR)

Inner fairing on Ultra is paint matched to bike (SESG isn't)

Don't really like the painted cowbell on the forks vs. chrome ones (I've got serious OCD :D)

Going w/Ultra you'll have driving/spot lights also giving you more forward visibility.

These are all just my opinions and you know what they say about those. :D :D

Beyond that, the Ultra has the heated seats and grips, navigation system, CB, intercom, and some other goodies that you won't get with the SESG that are nice things to have when you have it fully dressed.  I think you will ultimately spend more making a SESG into an SEUC than vice versa, but if you don't want some of the other features on the SEUC, it should be close...due to the initial price difference of about $5k.

All good points.  And if you add all those things to a SESG you will not get it back on trade value

When I walked into the dealership to look at me FLHXSE (Spiced Rum), right in front was a CVO Ultra in red/graphite.
Wowser! It's absolutely gorgeous. I must have sat on both bikes 10 times trying to decide which way to go.

I ended up with the CVO Streetglide for the following reasons:
It sits lower which is good for me.
I'm intrigued with the new hydraulic rear shock.
LOVE the Streetglide rear end.
90% of the time, I'd ride without tour-pak or lowers.
The rough guestimate for painting tour-pak and lowers by Gunslingers (right down the road in Golden, CO; they paint all the CVO bikes) was WAY over my budget. $2k minimum for the tour-pak alone.

The CVO Ultra is magnificent, but in the end, the seating is higher, the rear end ordinary, and I don't really care for the GPS that comes with it (going with Zumo 660) nor care about the CB.

It will cost a bundle to get the CVO Streetglide to my personal preferences. By the time I add the Zumo, Hawg Wired Double Shot, detachable rack, taller sissy bar to hold a T-bag, CVO Passing Lamps, switch out the handlebars, add wind deflectors and a few small items and dyno tune the sucker it's a big ticket. Surely almost as much as detaching the Ultra.

I should have the bike in less than 2 weeks. Awaiting a final decision from Steve at Fullsac on whether his cores are '10 compatible. Then the dealer has to set-up and dyno tune the bike.

I promise many photos when it's done.

Everyone's advice was good and most helpful. In the end, I'm guessing if 100 CVO Forum members were faced with this decision, we'd end up with a 50/50 split.

I'm actually one of those on the other side of the decision you made. I bought the 2010 SE Ultra this morning in Red/Slate. The paint on this bike was simply spectacular for my tastes. The amount of metal flake was astonishing. I had no idea from many of the pictures I had seen what this paint would look like. Its really one of the finest paint jobs I've seen harley put on a factory set of tins.

I essentially will be converting the Ultra into an SE SG for 80% of my riding with the Tourpak made detachable and used for my overnight trips. I believe this will also provide the greatest return on my investment. I've gone the other route (upgrading) and if money is a deciding factor, then moving downward with detachables is always a better financial approach.

I have to say what made the decision for me was the great paint job on the Ultra and the less-than-exciting paint on the SE SG (for my tastes). I also don't care for the black and chrome wheels however I know others like this type of contrast wheel...just doesn't "flip my switch on" so to speak.

I'll be bringing the SE Ultra home tomorrow (weather permitting) from Ocean Harley in Lakewood NJ. It never even made it to the showroom floor since they had just uncrated it and set it up for me to view this morning. I'll be making the tourpak detachable and lowering the front and rear suspension an inch which will make the SE Ultra into the SE SG they should have made from the factory, IMHO.

Same thing I went through & I picked the SG.The rear treatment was just what I'd hoped for & I like the paint scheme & the blue.Got a tour pac I'll paint just for the annual long trip.Think I might feel necked without the passing lamps.Might have to add them.Have to fire up the Singer & make my soft lowers fit the mustash engine guard.
