110 leaks--update??
« on: July 25, 2009, 07:47:19 PM »

Looking at the 2010 CVO street glide and would like to know if HD fixed the leaks that plagued the 110" motor. Anybody have any updates????

I'm well aware of the leaks issue and the series of articles in American Iron from Donny P. about it..........I still have low miles on my 2009 Ultra SE,  but so far no issues with leaks.........You can be sure I'll bitch if/when they occur........stay tuned.... :drink:

Please don't take anything written in that article as Gospel. It was poorly written at best. More information is attainable on this forum than anywhere else.

I take issue with your opinion........I have a lot of respect for what Donny has to say.  He has an inside channel to Harley folks and tells it like he sees it.  Do I think he is always right?   No,  I don't.  But to suggest to me that those making comments on this forum........know MORE or have better (inside info) than he does..........I'm not buying it. >:(

Sir, I respectfully disagree with you. That doesn't mean that we need to get into an argument about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. However I suggest that you read what other members of this forum have stated: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=30023.0
I, for one, would like to know how you know the author has an "inside channel to Harley folks"? Those of us who have had to live through the first revisions of head gaskets have (at least at the time) a far more intimate knowledge of the problem than Donny P. He himself admitted so much in his series of articles and would not comment on it until he personally looked at one of the engines. We have lived with all of the problems associated with the under tested engine (myself having three head gaskets replaced) and know what it is we're talking about. There are some very fine mechanics on this forum.

SO from what I read...the first revisions had the issues but everything is solved (or almost) at this point?? It sounds fairly safe to buy a CVO now??

After owning an '07 CVO 110' with all it's problems, I would feel comfortable buying a '10 today. Go strike a good deal with your dealer.

My 08 had the leak at 3k - gaskets replaced, no leak after that.  About 4 months later

HD had the "enhancement".  I had that done at about 8k.  I now have 16k miles and no leaks.  Was a bit annoying having it done twice but now seems to be just dandy.  Buy the bike and have fun with it!

Hard10.......

I'm sure there must be some fine mechanics that contribute to this forum.  To gain from their experiences is one of the reasons I try to keep up with the latest issues and problems.  My comments about Donny having some inside contact with Harley goes way back to when the Twin Cam was first developed.  As I recall it,  he got an invite from some engineers there to get a first-hand review of it before it was generally introduced and he wrote an extensive article about the "new" twin cam engine as a result of his visit.

As I get ready to depart for Sturgis at the end of the week,  here's hoping that I don't have to encounter any of the various 110 problems and leaks that you and several others have had to endure.   We will see........... :nixweiss:

My 2009 has 4500 miles on it. 900+ in one day at 85-125mph. No leaks, no issues at all.

Have a safe and wonderful time! From the readings here, you shouldn't have any problems with your '09 SEUC 110". At least none to worry about.  ;D

When you guys say "leaks" around the base gasket, how bad is the leak? I have oil seepage on my 09 110 that is visible after about 500 miles. The oil creaps up the outside of the cylinder from the gasket. Its not much but enouph to collect dirt after time.
