Engine build completed, thunderheaders installed, still have to install the race tuner do an initial download from the library and start her up.  A few more cosmetic bits to go too.

What are the thoughts on Compression Releases on my bike setup...are they needed [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  My dealer recommended them as I had bumped my compression to 10.5:1 and the ported heads are predrilled for the releases, so naturally I said "sure, why not, I'm going for broke anyway".

I've only had one cooolldd ride since the build and a dozen starts since it's been put back together so the pain in the asp factor and burnt thumbs have not set in yet.  I don't know if they will.  I've been thinking about my startup routine to and making sure that "push down releases" is part of it.  I haven't yet tried startup without them pushed down.  here's a pic anyway.  Welcome the thoughts.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, fatboyse2,
I always depress mine before dismounting Ol' Maudie.  Whatever routine you choose, you'll get used to it in a flash.  That little engineering marvel sets us apart from the less fortunate, with "stock" Motors!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Good lookin' Scoot!  Later--HUBBARD

My routine is kinda like Hubbards. I also depress mine when dismounting bike. Then it's ready for ignition when I wanna roll!
The only time I leave them up is when it's sitting for a few days or in storage.

Good luck, [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

fatboyse2, just curious why you even bought a moco bike, with the cost of the CVO and all the mods you have done so far you got to be close to 40k. you could have had a custom builder put together a real sweet race machine for that price tag. I considered this option but decided the fatboy was a good compromise of performance and looks, and would keep me out of trouble. I have had a tendency to forget my rational & safe side when given the opportunity  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

I'm about to do the same mods that fatboy has just completed.  I'd probably look at a Zippers 120 but I like the idea of keeping *something* from the original, and to be honest, not everyone needs (or wants) 500ci under the tank...lol.

As for the customs, EAGLE1, I used to own a $50,000 Bourget Low Blow, 120ci HO Merch, stump-pulling power, tons of nice parts, bathed in chrome, etc.  Nice bike, but NOT a Harley.

Those customs aren't for everyone either.

There's something about having "1HD1" in the VIN that makes a difference to a MAJORITY of the potential resale market.  Not many people buy used customs, take my word for it.

I did a lot of looking around before I bought my Harley.  I drove a couple of real hot customs in the 40 large range.  I rode a Bourget Fatdaddy (not my cup of tea style wise) and a real nice Pitbull which was the absolute best looking bike I'd ever seen.  But I'm not 20 and I don't want a 20 mile only ride.  It's nice to have a cool show bike and cart it around to all the shows and bars for others to look at with awe, but after riding the pitbull I decided I wanted a bike I could ride all day (not just for an hour at a time), I wanted it reliable and I liked the flexibility to make it the best it could be.  So, after all that, the day I brought my new CVO home I went riding with my neighbor who bought a 50 large Bourget a couple months before.  Within 20 miles he was asking for a break and I was ready for more twisty road[smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

yup, I hear ya!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] nice bar hoppers but not very practical for cruzing. sure you will be on big, when you pull up to your favorite watering hole, but you wont be going too much further than that before you are squirming in your seat. also with the moco you have tons of accessories off the shelf when you feel like changing her a bit, add a detachable windshield, bags & sundowner, and your ready for the long haul. cant do that with a custom. its really the best of both worlds with the CVO!
