Well, they're getting into Cybil today. Vern just called to go thru what happened. He said both plugs were fouled. Bike was never running rich before, since I had it properly tuned last year.
History of what happened:
Motor was rebuilt this winter after the lifter failure last fall. Bike was running GREAT, but the gas gauge hasn't worked since I got the bike back from them. They've replaced the gauge and the sending unit, but still no working gas gauge. I had bought a TSM (Turn Signal Module) to replace the stock TSSM (Turn Signal Security Module). Since they couldn't get the gas gauge operating, they decided to bring in a HD Tech with a portable DT to hook Cybil up to. They figured they'd get him to reprogram it for the non-security TSM, which you need the DT to do this with. So the Fuel Pump assembly was removed to replace the sending unit again, which the HD Tech said was bad. He also removed the TSSM and siren, and replaced it with the TSM thru the DT.
Gas gauge still didn't work, but the TSM seemed OK, and the bike was running normal, albiet still with no gas gauge. I rode about 125 miles or so and filled up. Still running fine. Went another 75 miles or so and stopped to meet the crew in Binghamton. After breakfast, I restarted the bike. Was very hard to start (never is normally) and was only running on 1 cylinder. Being on the road, I decided to just replace the spark plugs first and see. The plugs looked normal, with no signs of any fouling or richness at all. Bike ran OK again on both cylinders now, but that only lasted about 20 miles or so. I then pulled the seat and found both POS and NEG battery terminals loose. Figured that had to be it. Tightened em up. It wasn't the problem either, unless that burnt something out in the electronics. I also threw 1/2 bottle of Dry Gas in JIC I got some bad gas. Ran GREAT for a few miles, then back to running chitty for the rest of the trip, around another 800 miles or so. I ran out 6 tanks of gas since that first fill up, so I doubt gas is the culprit.
What it's doing now:
After getting new plugs in and tightening up the battery leads, the bike basically ran like chit the rest of the trip. You can only give it partial throttle. When trying to go WFO, it sputters and breaks up, and backfires to a really LOUD bang! That was how I rode it for 800 miles. It never cleared up. I learned how much throttle I could use and she got me home OK. Vern says the plugs are BLACK now and was wondering what they looked likew when I changed em on the road. I told him NORMAL. They're getting into it now, but thought I'd throw this out there in case someone's gone thru this.
STUPID FREAKIN COMPUTERS!!! I'm not above procuring an '02 harness and converting this to a carb. An S&S Super G will suit me just fine! But I'm not ready to give up on it yet, as she was running SO NICE!!! Ideas anyone? Thanks gang!!!

Hoist!
