Great looking bike, did the dealer have a H-D rep look at it?

I am sure that the rep will be involved. I have given up on it - and the delaer is treating me right.  So, I will move on to a different bike.... Plan B...  '06 Ultra Classic with some mods/upgrades.  Hate that it did not work out- but hey- no problem.   Thanks for your advice.

Chris - beautiful looking ride, at least.  Sorry you had problems with the handling.  Not sure if you FLHTCUSE folks follow the SEEG posts, but this handling thing has reared its head much too often, so perhaps it's not as untypical as we might think. Darrell in Canada, MrsWe, myself and many others have all experienced varying stability problems ranging from a nagging minor oscillation to flat out tank slapper.  The Ride Str8 and a switch to Metzeler 880s helped me, but did not totally cure my problem. The fact that the dealer took your bike back with no hesistation leads me to believe the MOCO is more than merely aware of this inherent design problem. Geez, companies like Ride Str8 are making money because they identified a manufacturing problem and an opportunity to cash in on it.  The point is, the people who should know probably do know there's a problem (earth to Milwaukee! come in please).  I understand that there is at least one lawsuit stemming from a motor cop who lost control of his EGlide at high speed.  I guess for the MOCO to say "yes, there's a problem" would concede defeat in court.  Meanwhile, riders like us, some of whom (self included) are less skillful riders than a guy who rides for a living, continue to run the risk, however slight, of losing control every time we mount up.  I know I'm painting a dismal picture, but...this situation really blows!  The difficulty is every bike's handling characteristics seems to be different.  Some of us feel the wobble at 60 mph and others at 80. We're of all different sizes and shapes so those variables make diagnosis even more difficult.  We all want to enjoy our bikes to the fullest so we (not the MOCO) bust our butts and spend our $$$ trying to fix something on a bike that never should have been crated up and sent out from York. It's frustrating.  Within a couple of years, I suspect a new chassis design will emerge.  Until then, it just seems a shame that some of us are stuck with bikes we can't trust at the worst possible time - high speed.  Product loyalty is one thing and I'm sure most of us ride what we ride because we like the idea of stradling american iron, but do Goldwing and BMW riders put up with this crap?!  Chris, I feel bad for you because it's a d@#n shame your bike wasn't all you wanted it to be from day one.  We all know the feeling of picking up a new bike.  It's one of the true pleasures in life. Your experience was really tarnished and now you're left to get on a bike that was maybe your second choice.  I tip my hat you because of you're loyalty to the HD brand.  Is it going to take guys like you getting a refund and walking across the street to Honda Heaven to get the MOCO to open their eyes?  Wish I hadn't gotten myself fired up at 2 a.m. - PJ

Oh well, just think of the positives, Chris gets to go through the "new" bike feel twice.  Seriously, it's a shame that they couldn't figure out the problem, and due to availability, they can't just give you a new one. If you can, keep us informed as to what they find out in the future. Hope they just don't sell it to someone else.

Yeah, sure!  If the MoCo had that much integrity, they would have fixed this issue long ago and no one would have to deal with this.  A lot of folks seem to forget that H-D is like most other large companies these days; the almighty dollar is what is important, not doing the right thing for the customers.  I noticed in the Enthusiast mag that the new CEO of H-D has ordered a '06 SE Ultra for his personal use  -  perhaps they should give him this one?

Hey Jerry, you don't think he'd be riding it fast enough to notice the suspension/stability problems, do you?  These issues don't pop up at 55mph.  Har! [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  spyder

spyder,

Maybe someone could arrange to have his throttle stick wide open right before a long sweeper with a few bumps in it.  That should give him some first hand experience!

Chris, it's not clear to me from these posts . . . . . . are you geting a full refund on the SEUC, or are you trading it for the Ultra?  I hope they are making you whole on the SEUC before taking your $$$s on the Ultra.

LOL, he would probably design a new seat on that ride.....

MoCo comes up with new form fitting seat that contours to your crack at high speeds. Faster the speed, faster the wobble, more contoured the seat becomes to your crack. Heavy-duty metal spatula (not included w/purchase) required after ride to peel seat from rectum.

Hey Fired00d, that's funny, right there!  That's what they refer to as "gallow's humor", [smiley=hanged.gif] huh?  Fits right into Golfpro22's new Black/Slate thread (AKA 'latest high speed wobble' thread).  Har!  spyder [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

---Dealer made me absolutely whole on the deal.  I have purchased several bikes from him and he was dedicated to doing whatever necessary to make me happy. Because I called foul from the minute I got on the bike (10-miles), he held my check (I paid cash), and when I decided a week later not to accept the bike he handed me my check and we started new. Can't beat that.  They still claim that they can make the bike right with some simple adjustments.... probably so-  but I lost interest and confidence-  and now feel 100% comfortable with making some serious upgrades to an Ultra... Wim-win as far as I am concerned.  I am sure that the SE is a great bike- and I am glad to hear that so many of you are happy with yours.... and again, I am sure that this SE will be repaired to the H-D specs.  But for me - the decision has been made.  glad I returned the bike the same day that I paid for it. Doing so gave the dealer some options- and he made a good business decision. I will buy the new Ultra and most accessories from him- even though I must wait three weeks (while there is one availbale today 60 miles down the road).... I will wait- and I will make some serious upgrades.
Thanks to all- for your attention and your advice.   :)

Thanks for the post.  I am ok with the results.  As much as I looked forward to the SE bike-  I am confident with the decision to buy and upgrade a 2006 Ultra.  I realize that resale will suffer when compared the  (beautiful) SE bike-  but hey-  buying it to ride, not to sell.   Hope to keep it for a long time.  -  As you mentioned- I am loyal to H-D.... I have owned 12 H-D's with relatively NO problems.  Dealer has always treated me well (buying 10 bikes in 7 years will do that)....
I still have a 2003 Road King Classic that I really enjoy.  Buying the Ultra for the occasional 2-up riding with my wife and a few long-distance trips.  Hoping to plan a cross-country trip soon.
Thanks for your concern and advice.... You guys are great.
I have additional photos if anyone would like them via e-mail.
Thanks-

That's great, Chris!  I'm glad to hear you were treated fairly on the deal.  I can understand why you feel the way you do and why you made the decision you made.  May not hurt to ride the Ultra before they start tearing into it, huh, just to make sure it does not exhibit any of the same tendencies that the SE did?
