Seeking advice for pipes and breather for 2007 CVO Ultra
« on: July 30, 2009, 12:03:22 AM »

I traded up from a 2007 Ultra to a (used) 2007 CVO ultra. The bike has low miles, and is absolutely stock.

I'm happy with the power, but can always use more  8). What would you folks suggest for pipes and a breather, to give a good combo of full range torque and horsepower increase.

On my Ultra standard I had V&H true duals with the V&H fuel pack module, and just a standard stage 1 breather from Harley, liked the sound, but it may have been a little loud. I prefer throaty. Loud is OK, but not necessarily obnoxiously loud.

Suggestions?

What were you running for mufflers on your previous Ultra?

If you thought your 96" bike was a little too loud it's almost a certainty that using the same headpipes and mufflers on the 110" it will be louder.  I would try staying with the stock headpipes with the crossover instead of going to the expense of the V&H True Duals.  As far as mufflers, you should consider keeping your stock mufflers and doing the Fullsac conversion with 1.75" baffles.  As for an air kit I personally like the Ness Big Sucker.  But the HD Stage 1 is okay also.  When you change the air kit and add freer flowing mufflers you will also have to install some kind of fuel management system.  A SERT, PowerCommander or a FuelPak like you had on your previous bike.  I think you are better off with the SERT or PC.  You can get it on a dyno and have it fine tuned with either one.  You don't have that option with the FuelPak.

In the same boat.
Is it possible to change out the breather but leave the rest of the system stock? Will it help anything if I do? The inserts mentioned how much louder are they than stock?
Any comments would be appreciated.

Just adding a Stage 1 air kit won't do much for you.  However, if you add the air kit along with something like a PowerCommander for fuel management it can/will make a big difference.  I sometimes put my stock mufflers on and I have a PC map that is setup for that.  Made a big difference in how the bike ran because it's giving it more fuel.

The "inserts" or baffles you are talking about are quite a bit louder than stock.  Fullsac offers them in 1.75", 2.0" and 2.25".  The smaller the baffle the quieter.  I'm running the the 1.75" and they still bark when you get on it.

So I think I'm going to go with something like the monster ovals for exhaust (I do like my Vance and Hines), and will rpobably take your advice and go with the big sucker for air.

Here is where I'm going to show my ignorance in matters of ECM. With the SERT or PC, is this something I can remap myself in my garage with a personal computer? If so, will the interface show me what kind of HP and Torque I'm getting, or will I have to take it to a shop to have a dyno test done?

Also, if I do this, what impact will this have on my warranty? The standard HD warranty on my bike is long gone, but I do have a 2 year extended HD warranty.

I've never used a SERT, only the PowerCommander.  Yes, you can download different maps for the PC directly from your computer to the PC.  No, it will not tell you the HP and Torque.  You will have to get it on a dyno to do that.  Not sure how it will effect your warranty.  That seems to depend a lot on the individual dealer.

Do you know if your bike has had the MOCO 110 "Product Enhancement" completed?

I've had both Rinehart Tru Duals and D&D Fatcat exhaust on my 07 SEUC.  Both sound great!  I use a Power Commander, but a Super Sert would work well also.

The dealer "said" it had the entire top end redone. I presume thats the program fix from HD. I haven't checked teh VIN yet with my local dealer to make sure, but my guess is yes.
