Our local shop just hired a new master tech, (Ryan), from Nuts and Bolts HD out of Idaho. He left there due to the fact that the company has new owners and they don't want to do performance work, and have dissolved their race team, (WHAT!). He wanted to go to a shop that does performance work and has an active race team. Our local shop races a V-Rod.
Their loss is our gain because this guy is really good with the race tuner. The local shop just put in a new dyno room with a dyno jet dynamometer to go along with the new tech.
I let them use the green machine so that he could train the other master tech on the race tuner.
The shop needed a bike that had a race tuner for training and asked if they could use mine if they did the mapping for free. They also said that I was welcome to stay there and observe if I wanted.
When it was time for lunch, Scott, the co-owner gave me a brand new cobalt blue Road King to ride.
I run supertrapp IDS slip ons on V & H true duals and he got 95TQ and 98HP SAE corrected out of the bike. The best part is that there is NO torque dip, and the power comes on strong very early and is as flat as Kansas. NO decel pop at all, and NO MORE PINGING. Ryan told me that the rear cylinder was the main problem with the pinging issue as expected.
Ryan said that he was surprised how well that my particular set up worked to keep the torque curve flat.
The other master tech had earlier told me that about all I could expect out of the bike with my set up was about 90TQ and 85HP, so he was surprised at the numbers.
I know that some of you guys get better numbers than this, but I am really happy with the way the bike runs now.
I don't recall seeing many dyno sheets on these particular bikes where the HP is higher than the torque, but I'll take that for the really flat torque curve it gives. Ryan said he could get the numbers higher by adding more discs but I am happy with the sound and performance that it has now.
This guy likes the Tru Dual set up as well as Rineharts and says that the tuners who knock them just don't know how to tune them.
I am really happy to have someone locally who is good with the race tuner.
I am really impressed with the way our local dealer has stepped up to the plate on the performance and tuning side of the buisness.
