Saddlebag Lid Organizers
« on: November 28, 2005, 02:42:11 PM »

Does anyone have these installed on their SEEG?  I was looking in the parts and accessories book last night and it says that the organizers, part no. 53548-02A, doesn't work with saddlebag lid trim kits.  The SEEG has the trim on the lids, and the nuts under the lid to hold the trim pieces on, but it's hard to imagine that that would interfere with the soft lid organizer.

On the other hand, I've never held the organizer in my hands, and am not entirely sure how they mount.  Thanks for your thoughts.

Jeff,

I had them on my 2002 FLHRSEI and to be truthful they weren't of much use.
Most of the organizers pockets were to small for what I wanted to put in them

Also to top it off the Organizer is secured with two way tape so hence you put something with any weight in a organizer pocket it pulls the organizer away from lid so when you open your lids the organizer is laying in saddle bag

On a 1 to 10 scale:
I give it a 5

LOL.....Chrome a better investment

I believe that's due to the organizer has to lay flat against the inside top of the lid in order for the double sided tape to hold.  However, the lid organizer on my tour pack, I just run the bolts through the organizer, as well.  Just silicone around the holes, on the inside, to keep them water tight.

Thanks both of you for the responses.  I just went up to Harley dealer and took a look at the organizers--I see what you mean about the small pockets, and had the same thought about running the bolts into the organizer itself.  Anyway, still thinking about it.

I do like the "more chrome" idea, though.

Jeff,

With the organizers being inside the recess of the tour pak lid and the pockets being kind of smallish they aren't super helpful.  I've got 'em but they really serve more of a purpose of holdng and hidnig the harnesses to the saddlebag spoilers than they do anything else.

Aside from that in those pockets I keep a very few small items that it's nice to have with you out on the road but would rarely ever get used.  I think there's a small flashlight stuffed in one (those kind that you shake to make work), a spare phone charger that plugs in to lighter plug, a spare maxi-fuse in case that sucker should ever pop and maybe a few other small bits and pieces.  Not much.  But it does become basically free space for stuff that doesn't have to be real handy but is still nice to have with you.

And, yeah, they'll work fine with the trim or the spoilers.  Harley is just anal.

Thanks Don.  Yeah, I was thinking about registration, proof of insurance, flashlight, sunglasses,  etc, since it is basically free space.  Carrying a spare maxifuse is a great idea.

Now the tour pak organizer HD Part # 53249-01A is a more useful,
I currently don't own one but several riding friends have them and get good use out of them.
Wonder if it will fit 06 Leather tour pak?
One friend is like a convenience store, I will say "dang I got a head ache wish I had a aspirin" walla out come Bayer/Anacin or Tylenol,
Another time my hand gets a little dirty and I say "wish I had a wet cloth" walla out comes a wet one type cloth.

Friends like this guy can always ride with me

I am lucky if I remember my keys to my scooter, yeah Saturday I forgot them and when we got to a Casino I had to beg/$10 Tip the Valet Guy to let me park my scooter next to his Valet Shack.

Now the HD Saddlebag Tool Teather Part # 53579-01 is handy for tools and etc
Hmmm nice stocking stuffer from the kids....lol

After installing my tour and lid organizer a couple years ago I would really miss them if I had to go with out them. The Harley lid and spoiler led lights will fit, if one decides to install them later.

I use em without regret. At least one pocket has a spare headlight bulb. Suspended in the net the bulb is not bouncing around with bumps in the road.  Have small light, tape ,sun block, glasses, air guage, and a bunch of other crap that I don't have to go on a search and destroy mission to find. Have eliminated carrying a spare master link over the years.

Ditto to all the "positives" above.
On one side I have two padlocks, one for helmets and one for the front rotor. Never had a problem with the tape pulling away.

Don, did you put the spoilers on after you did the organizers?  It seems like you'd have to remove the organizers to route the wiring for the spoilers, or don't you?  If you have any comments about how you did it and photos of your install, I'd appreciate it, especially if there's some clean-looking way of being able to put them on with the organizers in place.

I did them at the same time Brian.  So my spoiler harness is hidden under the organizer for the little bit of distance that it lives in the lid.  It's not going to be up there but for a short bit of distance though.  I'd bet you could peal the corner of the organizer back just a bit and get the harness underneath it.  If you're worried it staying loose pull it back in an area where one of the screws in to the spoiler can go through it and use that screw to hold it back in place.

Even if you decide not to move the organizer the harness run could still be pretty neatly run around the edge of it.  Use some marine epoxy or other clear/strong adhesive to tack the harness in place with if you don't want to use the sticky backed harness clips.

Heres' the routing of the cabling inside the saddlebag:
