A week ago I had a new clutch basked installed. The reason for the repair was that the ACR was not on. The bike started great for a week and now it is back sounding like a bucket of bolts. Is it possible the the ACR shut it self off? A software problem.

I doubt it shut itself off. Better the chance one or both went bad. Those ACR's suck, and the location of the wiring is terrible, and can melt the insulation if not placed perfectly. I'd have them check the ACR's functionality before I suspect the SERT shut them off. But hey, maybe they never enabled em like they thought they did! ;)

Do you mean the ACR was not on because it was turned off in the tuner software?

My guess is that the firt dealer shut off the ACR when they put in the race tuner. The next dealer turned it back on but by that time he had to replace the clutch. Now after a week it's back to starting bad. Just like when the ACR was off. The dealer will check tomorrow to see if it's off again.

What did they replace, just the clutch ring gear?  If so, there may have been damage to the starter drive gear and if they didn't change that as well it could easily start chewing up the new ring gear.

The gear on the starter looked like new so they did not replace it. I will see tomorrow when I go and get back to you.

The ACR was on. The starter bench tested OK. Is it possible that the starter does not push the gear into the ring gear every once in a while and just grinds the two gears .

Your original post says the ACRs were not on and this one says they were.  If ACRs were installed and disabled in the tuner software, they was exposed to constant current and melted - later turning it on will not help.  This could explain your problem after the repair. So you need to determine if they are functioning - not simply switched on.

Before anyone jumps in and says how can they be exposed to current if they are disabled, it's the way that system works.

The first time the ACR was off and the clutch gear was replaced. The problem started again and the dealer said the ACR was on. I will have to ask him if he checkes to se if it was working.

Is there a way for me to see if the ACR is not only on but working?

Had the bike at the dealer yesterday. They did a compression  test and determined that the ACR is working. So now they are installing the second clutch basket and this time adding a new starter. If this does not fix it i give up and will buy a 2010.

I too have had this issue with what I felt was the ACR's. was hard start, spittin and puking a puff of smoke. Since I did the Mastertune myself I knew the ACR's were "enabled" when finished, but I questioned myself. when in it the other night and confirmed it, but I made some adjustments to the tune in the Starting area, seemed it was getting too much fuel at start, so I lowered it until the problem went away, seems fine now.
