HD Shields vs Kuryakyn
« on: August 05, 2009, 11:17:53 AM »

Just wondering is anybody ever used both heatshields and if they found a difference. I presently have the Kuryakyn Saddle Heatshield, but looking at the H-D versions they seem to have more coverage, though do not look as nice. Then again the black seems to blend in and hind them a little bit.

I had a set of Kury on my 02 ElectraGlide and they worked great for about 3 months then the right side broke off riding down the road.  It broke at the tab where it goes under the seat, ticked me off but it was gone and not going to risk my life trying to pick it up off the highway, kind of figured HD was OEMing from the same guys that did Kury, so never pursued it any further.  I just got an 09 SERG and changed the headers out like so many others on this site and rode Sunday in 106 degree temperature in a pair of shorts and not a problem with heat at all.  Couldn't do that on the 02....Just my $.02 worth

Neither.  RJS originals are the best and they can be custom made for your bike and personal taste.

I just had the HD heat shields installed.  I bought a set of kurakyns with the chrome finish there are sitting new in the box in my garage.  I only chose the HD heat shields because I had a just bought a new Mustang seat and was told you could not install the Kurakyns with the Mustang seat.

Well I bought another Corbin seat - I just couldn't get used to the Mustang and already had the dealer lined up to install the heat shields along with tires and IDS - they were throwing the labor in for free so I just paid for the heat shields.  I like them last week it was a 100 degrees here and I could really tell the difference.  I just figured since I have the extended warranty the heat shields are now covered and if something goes wrong with my motor then Moco can't try to say some BS that some aftermarket product caused it.

As far as how they look - they do blend in nicely with black rubber on the lowers and with my bike being black and orange I think most people would not even notice them unless they knew what they were looking at.   I also installed the new adjustable air deflectors  part# 58156-08 I only have 3 mounting holes on my fairing but as other members have said 3 work just fine.  These really help direct the air.

Buy the HD ones and have them painted to match whatever color your side covers/lower tank is. They look outstanding. I have had more complements on these than anything else I have done to the bike. Even Larryb said they looked good.

I saw on orange the other day with what I thought were chrome deflectors.  HD parts guy said they were the smoked kuryakns that look chrome.   I thought they looked fantastic.  Gonna put them on my fast yellow  SERG3.

Yes the chrome looking Kuryakyn's look cool... They are about 3/4 size of the H.D. ones.
I think if a person has a heat problem (I do not) get the H.D. ones.. For cool looks maybe go
with the chrome looking K's

your's are the only HD ones I've seen that looked good. just the plain flat black do not. ok on the SEUC but not on the SERG. But so far, I haven't needed them. my temps are fine
