Center Exhaust Brackett Cracks
« on: August 06, 2009, 05:57:51 PM »

Changed the cams on the wife's 06 SG Saturday. While taking the exhaust off I noticed that the exhaust bracket  bolted on the lower side of the tranny, below where the clutch cable goes in was cracked in half. I bought a new one and when removing the old one found that it had another crack. So the brackett was in three pieces after removal. This is just a heads up for y'all to take a look at the brackett if you are working on that side of the bike.

Sorry to see the broken bracket.  Any idea what stressed it enough to do the deed?  Also noticed what looks to be a heavy oil soak on the harness wrap.  Just run-back from oil filter changes or had some other leak going on?

Probably the material it was made of, the old one has that gold sheen, so it could have had to much tensile strength. Does not seem possible where and how it is mounted but that's the only thing I can think of.
The bike has not been washed since the 4026K ride. I put the wife's bike on the lift after we got home, saw no sense in washing it when I was going to be doing the cams, gear drive, clutch, and numerous other things. Most likely though the oil is from the wife putting oil in the bike or should I say corrosion proofing the bike.
