looking at a 2010 FLHTCUSE5, what pipes?
« on: August 08, 2009, 03:28:33 PM »

Was at my local dealer yesterday and priced a new se ultra. I currently have a 07 se ultra with 9500 mile, black and orange. My current bike i installed Rinehart slipons with a se air cleaner and race tuner.  When talking to the dealer I told him I wanted different pipes and a race tuner and would have it Dyno tuned. He didn't give me a good feeling on what pipes to install, he suggested some Rinehart slip ons. Reading on here there doesn't appear to be many options? Those who have purchased 2010 se ultras, what mods are you planning? I'm interested in more noise and power with out harming the reliability.

Are monster ovals slip ons?  Should I look to replace the pipes and go with true duals?  I've made my dealer an offer we are 2000.00 a part. I suspect we'll seal the deal next week.  Have considered riding it to Fullsac to have the pipes modified there and to have a tuner installed with dyno tuning. Would be like a labor day weekend plus a few days as I'd be traveling from SD.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

I had the same issue. Took delivery on my 2010 SE Ultra last Tuesday. I've already ridden it 350 miles. Handling is outstanding and my objective is to get the bike's 110 engine to perform to its full capability. I'm planning to stay with a pretty stock looking exhaust system but am planning mods to accommodate a higher performing engine that includes head work, 58mm throttlebody, roller rockers, adj pushrods, Woods 408-6 cams and the race tuner.

Here's my plan for the exhaust ...its relatively simple. I've already ground out the welds on the stock baffles and made them removeable with a SS buttonhead bolt, lock washer and nut. I drilled a .25" hole at 1 3/8" from the rear bottom edge of the stock can and used the bolt to refasten the stock baffle back into place for now. I can now replace my baffles whenever I wish. I ordered a set of 2.25" baffles from Fullsac which are scheduled to arrive next week.

When the bike goes in for the engine upgrades, I'm having the dealer send the header out to Fullsacs to have the catalytic converter removed while the headers are also being worked on. Essentially I'll have a stock looking exhaust that has much freer flowing exhaust to handle the higher performing engine. My guess is the 2.25" baffles will be plenty loud.

Going this route also gives me the advantage of swapping out exhaust tips to the many HD options available without having to change the exhaust.

i would go with slip ons   yes the monsters are slip ons    why change the head pipe?  its a 2-1-2 pipe.I would get the cat removed, stevev from fulsac does this, a great guy did mine.As I said I have had the cat removed, did the super sert,I also put the se road glide air cleaner on,monster ovals and had it tuned at indy shop, did my head quaters tune after I did that build,He was happy with those pipes, said they breathed well.

after the tune I am at 94 hp and 109 tq,not bad for a stock 110 mtr with no inside work.i get abit over 41 mph at highway all day long at 75-80 mph

very happy.I went to tenn for a week for there hog ralley,I did 3180 miles in 9 days, also went to nc for family, and back to northern Nj and averaged 40.7mpg for the whole trip, not to shabby

I am going with Jackpot head pipe and Revolution Performance EMS. I already have Monster Ovals and stage 1 Air.
Should have it finished in a week or so and will post results.

Fullsac x 2.  I know you don't live in Nazi-fornia, but you just can't beat the x-pipe and baffles combo for stock looks/best performance/low cost/ease of install IMHO.  With the cat chewed out, you're still sending most of your exhaust down the right muff.

Just FYI, but I think since Fullsac started selling their own headpipe Steve no longer does the "send in your own pipe for the cat removal" anymore.

I just got back from a short ride after my upgrade to Jackpot Head Pipes, V&H Monster Ovals, Stage 1 Air and Rev-Perf EMS install. This is how a Harley should run. No more heat from a CAT, Throttle response is nice and quick, no popping on deceleration, sound is perfect and acceleration is awesome.

I will be going on a longer ride tomorrow and report back.

Andrew was a big help at Rev-Perf. You can email him here with any questions.  andrew@mt-llc.com
