here's my idea, don't go cheap, remove clear coat have painted and then re-clear, but that's just me. if you just pinstrip on top, oven cleaner can remove

I agree, but it is hard to find a painter who will risk taking off the clear without damaging the paint. Strangely, it is cheaper to repaint a solid color bike than to just remove the clear. I'm sure it is different on a CVO bike.

no way to remove clear coat without damage to base coat.. if you find someone that says they can RUN... you can sand the clear with fine sandpaper (being careful not to sand thru the clear) then add pinstripes and re-clear...

Is there anything wrong with having the pinstriping done over the clear coat and then putting another couple of coats of clear coat over it?  Wouldn't that work...I'm not a custom painter, so I haven't got a clue if it would or not. :nixweiss:

Short answer is yes, especially if you can locate a painter/artist who's familiar with a lot of the custom car techniques from the 70's and early 80's.  Was very popular with the candy colors to run up to 10-12 coats of clear with the pinstriping applied in stages every 2 or 3 coats.  You've probably seen some of those jobs as they look about a foot thick with the pinstriping suspended in the finish.

exactly, some 3000 grit usually does it

yes, but you have to run the new clear over the whole piece

Getting back to the original request. . . Would like to see what type of work you've done and locations on the bike, thanks!

if you have some idea but are unsure if you want to make it permanent, you could add some vinyl stickers and see if you like it then have it done by a pin striper

both of these are vinyl
