Has anyone used the '09 SERG A/C on another 110" SE bike?
« on: August 11, 2009, 11:46:11 AM »

I was wondering if the best HD hi-flo A/C to go with my '10 SEUC was the '09 SERG A/C. I was planning to start my engine upgrades next week and need to make a decision about the A/C. I am planning an engine build adding a 58mm TB and am hopeful the SERG's A/C is compatible with the backing plate on the larger TB.

From what I've read it appears as thought the '09 SERG's A/C is one of the least restrictive HD A/Cs for the 110 motor. Is there any reason this wouldn't be a good A/C for a '10 SEUC or do others think there's a better option with a 58mm TB?

its a great AC... so good, they made it an accessory, the Ventilator... Fullsac tested it and it only lost 3hp over no AC...
my friend has 1 on his '09 SEUC, along with the cat removed, monster ovals and a SEST with tune, and made 94/108...

The  SERG AC is a good choice. You may want to hold off on the 58 TBI until the motor needs it. That would be after cams and headwork.
Even then, don't expect any big gains in the usable part of the powerband.

The heads (Hillside), cam (TW408-6), TB (58mm), RT and roller rockers are all going in at the same time. Sounds like the SERG A/C would be a good match. I have 2.25 Fullsacs arriving this week (I've already made the stock baffles removeable) and while the heads are sent out, I'll be sending the exhaust header out to have the cc removed by fullsacs.

I'm not so sure about the "not getting more useable power". I've got about 350 miles on my '10 SEUC and she clearly runs out of breath very quickly - around 4k. She has very nice pull down low but I believe even that is being stifled by the exhaust, cams and head combination that are designed to satisfy bureaucrats not riders. I have no intention of letting a bureaucrat suck the life out of my bike investment and personal biking pleasure.

Here's a few dyno examples of similar engine builds to the one I'm building (minus the 2:1 pipe).

I would say ALL of these bikes have VERY useable power and all had a larger throttlebody than the stock 50mm.

I was wondering the same thing?  I found that H-D now offers one for models with lowers too.  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=39289.0

Maybe this is would be a good choice too?

I think the Ventilator A/C at the link above is a good choice however I was wondering if the 09 SERG A/C is available. I think its slightly different from the Ventilator since the SERG doesn't expose the air filter ALL the way around the breather like the Ventilator. I suspect that allows the SERG to operate better in pouring rain without the need to install a rain sock. Thoughts?

I really don't care for the looks of the Heavy Breather. I don't think it goes with a UC and it would completely block the use of the door on the RH lower fairing. Not to mention it forces your right leg out further away from the engine than the normal A/C. Does anyone have access to a part number on the breather used on the '09 SERG? I've been unable to track the number down. Come to think of it, I can't remember if this is the A/C that was used on the '10 SESG. Anyone know if the breather on the '10 SESG is the same as the '09 SERG?

The housing on the SERG A/C is exactly the same as the housing on the Ventilator A/C - The element is exposed the same amount.  The only difference is the oval name plate in the center.  The SERG A/C comes with a rain sock as well.

I am using this air cleaner kit and I have no compaints.   Nice part is it moves my knee in just bit more and I think it looks good.

Is there any real difference between the Screamin' Eagle® "Ventilator" Performance Air Cleaner Kit and a high flow replacement filter by zippers or K&N for the OEM?
