Installing Premium Tour-Pak Hinges Part no. 79211-08A
« on: August 13, 2009, 06:07:30 PM »

This is not a hard install, but there are a couple of things that will make it easier. Read the directions several times. Use a 3/16th drill as per instructions to drill out rivets.(the rivets drill out easy you don't have to force the drill bit ) I used some duct tape to hold back the rubber seal in the top of the tour pak when drilling out the rivets that are located underneath the seal.   The screws provided in the kit will not fit through the rivet holes unless you drill through the fiberglass with the 3/16th bit. I used a  5/32 inch bit to open them up just a little. At that point you can push on the screws slightly and they will thread themselves through for a nice snug fit.(you don't have to force them) This helps a lot because they will hold themselves in place while you attach the new hindges. I didn't use the 3/16th inch bit to drill through the fiberglass part of the tourpak because it just looked like it would make the hole to big. I know most guys on this site could do this project very easily, but if any one has any questions please ask. ( I saved $92.00 Labor) CAHDBIKER

I did it myself too and I agree that it was not hard at all.  Drilling the holes by the gasket was the hardest part, but even that was not that bad.  I used part of the old bracket to push the gasket down and guide the drill bit so it did not gouge the gasket.  Basically just put the bracket between the gasket and drill bit and go to town.

It's kind of scarey task because if you make a mistake it could scratch your paint or damage your fiberglass.I like my local HD dealer, but I am glad I did it myself. They should have came with the bike in the first place for what we all paid. Ride Safe. cahdbiker
