Any way to cool the Right side of the bike?
« on: August 16, 2009, 09:43:24 PM »

Yes I am new to the Ultra family.  So if anyone can suggest or direct me to a previous post on how to cool the right side of the bike.  My old bike, 03 RKC, is only an 88 Twin with true duals and is a lot cooler.  Nothing I cannot live with, but the misses was asking today about it.

If your bike is still stock you may want to remove the cat (catalytic converter) and have your pipes done by Fulsac. Search the board for "Cat Removal" and "Fulsac" and you'll find plenty of reading.

Going to true dual pipes will help immensely.

I went with Vance & Hines true duals and I kept my stock mufflers... I very pleased with the difference.

I’ve removed the catalytic converter, installed fullsac baffles, had the bike tuned and while it’s a lot cooler than it was when it was stock it still gets still pretty hot on the right side. My misses has come to realize that if we ride more than just a few miles she can not wear sandals. It’s probably good for safety anyway. My previous bike was a 107ci with a more aggressive cam and higher performance/compression heads, could be me but my CVO seems to be a lot hotter.

IMHO the best way to cool off the right side is to tune the motor and it doesn't matter what option you go with (SERT, TTS Mastertune, Power Commander).  Lowering the engine temp will extend the life of you motor and make stop and go traffic more bearable.

You can also activate the engine's heat management system while at a stop by rolling your throttle forward until you see the cruise light start blinking and the bike will turn off fuel to the aft cylinder which makes a noticeable difference as well.

No More Fried Thighs are the best of the deflectors IMO.  YMMV.

had the same problem with the misses and the heat on my 09. I took a few steps and seem to have solved it for her at least. run without the faring lowers, i live in chicago and the problem didn't become major until it got warm here, have the cat removed and bike re-tuned, this hit me like a brick while i was talking to someone about the heat from a cars catalytic converter. relocate the floor boards, the adjustable ones just don't do it right plus they are a pain in the ass, a set of stock style chrome one grabbed on ebay for 30 bucks did the trick, and relocating the drivers boards helped with the heat as well, good luck nothing worse the the big boss and a new toy not getting along.

If an 09 is still too hot, you don't have your AFR rich enough... Get it down around 14.2 at cruise and you won't have a heat issue. That would be CLB tables about 801mv on a TTS tuner running closed loop.
