« on: August 18, 2009, 11:15:05 AM »

After removing the complete Cat my bike did start very bad , rode to dealer and told him then the technical master did set the "ignition-modul" ( i don`t know exactly how he named it ) back to 100 ( to let it learn again from beginning , he said ) ,Does anyone know the name of this module ? The short version is three or four letters ??????

Klaus, I think you may be referring to the "ECM"  / Electronic Control Module.  That's the computer / brain that runs the bike now.

No , definitely not the ECM , this is the one for managing all engine components together , there is a special ignition module which the technician set back to 100 so that it is able to learn from beginning new . I will ask him exactly when i will be there the next time .

It's called AFV (Adaptive Fuel Value)......

Whether it is set back to 100% or not is irrelevant, as the AFV is constantly active, to adjust up or down once they are up to temp....

It is beneficial though to have it reset, as it narrows down the correction factor...

Riding around for about 50 miles at varying speeds will begin the correction action...

But from the point of setting back to 100 it started correctly , before it was a bad starting procedure .???

"The AFV will be learned when the bike is operated at engine speeds between 2500 and 3500 rpm at road speeds in the 40 to 60 mph range under a steady light load (no down grades or steep upgrades, decelerating or accelerating) for 2 to 3 minutes.

The AFV can also be reset to 100 by using the scanalizer at any time. The AFV value can be a valuable diagnostic tool. Compare the AFV values of bikes in your area which are running fine during routine services. When you are working on a bike which may have a DDFI problem, compare the values."

DDFI and the specifications presented by kraut are specific to Buel Motorcycles....

HD used the Adaptive Fuel Value algorithm in 2006, when the DYNA chassis went Closed Loop....

It carried over in 2007 when the entire fleet went EFI...

The Closed Loop bias tables for an HD model are controlled by RPM and MAP load...

As an example, an 09 CVO map has it's Adaptive range from 750 - 3750 RPM and 20 - 80 kpa ....
