Question on RK Custom and Street Glide wheels
« on: August 19, 2009, 02:34:04 AM »

Would those with these bikes comment on the wheel's effect on the bike in a crosswind?  Do they have a tendency to catch the wind a bit like the Fatboy or other solid wheels do?  Or are they open enough to minimize or eliminate the effect?

When Kathy had her FLHX the only time she complained about the wind was on I90 from the Missouri River to Sturgis.....course the wind was only blowing 35kts

Don,

A friend with a 2004 Fatboy complained of the cross wind effect. After switching to a Street Glide he reported the cross wind effect was negligible. Those wheels look much better with all that chrome :2vrolijk_21:

Thanks.  Appreciate the comparison.   Just what I needed.

Brian, I'm not sure it's really a valid comparison when you need to mount a sail and tack in to the wind to make the bike go straight ??? .

She had that bike for just 2 years and sold it with 25,000 miles.

That trip was the only time she ever complained about the wind and its effects on the bike

On a touring bike with hard bags, how much wheel is exposed anyway?  I would think anything with a huge fairing is going to be affected by wind regardless of the wheel type.

The wind affecting the bike with solid wheels is said to be an old wive's tale....

Like I said... I never had an issue in 60K + with the Fatboy, in all kinds of weather conditions

The high winds push the batwing around on the Street Glide more than the wheels ever affected the Fatboy...
