That makes two of us :confused5:... I originally thought he was speaking of the guards that go on the bottom and connect on the back thru (which needs the cutout for) the filler strip. If you look at the pictures below the side panel where the only guards the CUSE's have appear the same on a SEEG. :nixweiss:

If these are in fact the guards you're speaking of then the have come standard on more models then the CUSE"s. If you're talking about the ones that fit around the bags from front to back (aka Ultra Classic) then those were added and the filler strip in back at rear fender has a cut out for them.

What I would like to do is take off the back gaurds like shown on the 2010 cuse.   In order to do that you need the support rail as shown on the SEEG.  In the 2009 accessory book it showed that item , but in 2010 it says not available for the CUSE5 ?   My dealer told me it had something to do with the filler strip??

So I am looking for a fix so I can eliminate the bag gaurd and make it look like the old SEEG  (see below)

Any thoughts

Not sure what is different with the rear filler strip on the  '10's...

They appear the same. I would think all you would have to do is change out the entire assembly (saddlebag guard & saddlebag support) for one that is on a '10 touring bike w/o the saddlebag guards. My guess would be the one on the SESG would work. :nixweiss:

More then likely the "dealer" looked at the P&A book and gave you that answer instead of looking/comparing on the bikes to see if they would/wouldn't work. :nixweiss:

The idea that they would make something different that would require more tooling and a specific part for one model would make me think the dealer didn't know what they were talking about.

Just was looking at my parts manual ('04 SEEG) to see what that saddlebag support bar attaches to and it is a "support bracket" that it and the filler strips attach to. Even w/that I don't think there would be one specifically for the CUSE that would not allow the normal saddlebag support bar to fit to it. :nixweiss:

Anybody w/an '10 CUSE & SESG (I'd think they'd be the same on a '09 SERG/CUSE too) that can take your saddlebag off and take pictures of the support brackets so we can compare? For comparsion purposes can you do the right side (as you're sitting on the bike) saddlebag. TIA.

I have an 06' FLHTCUSE and used the saddlebag support kit that comes standard on the the Street Glide and had no problem keeping the filler strips in tact. I would think that the kit that fits the 09' FLHTCUSE4 should work on the 2010 FLHTCUSE5.

That's what I was thinking too. :nixweiss:

Any of you '09/'10 CUSE owners have pics of saddlebags off your bike showing the saddlebag support? Interested in seeing the support bracket that the rear filler strip and support bracket is connected to. I know the frames changed in '09... are there any changes to rear tire (size, etc), rear frame section in '10?

Not first hand knowledge, but literature has lead me to think the filler strips on the CUSE4/5 mount to the saddlebag support bracket (outboard), and the CUSE/2/3 mout to the fender brace (inboard).  I think the saddlebag support for the SG/RG lacks the mounting tabs for the filler strips.

Notice all the 'I think' here?  Pics would be better!

I think if you check to see the part numbers for the stock saddlebag guards and supports, and filler panels on the 09 and 10, you will have your answer as to whether they are the same.  The filler panels could have different numbers just because of the paint color or they may be the same number with different colors available.  If the stock parts are the same from one year to the next, then the 09 replacement support piece will work.

Correct!  I have a set of SG supports sitting on the shelf because they do not have the required bracket to attach to filler strips.
