What grip did you get?  HD part#?  Aftermarket company?  Take pics and notes when doing the install. :2vrolijk_21:

If these are the Harley heated grips I would so hope you haven't installed them yet. I don't think they have changed anything in their design and I don't think I've ever seen anyone who uses them to make it much past a year without them burning out. I had them installed on my 05 sefb and they lasted about 8 months. I brought it back to the dealer and they found a disclaimer on the package that states not for use on internally wired handlebars (go figure they come on the seuc). Long story short I didn't have them reinstalled.

I then found The Heat Demons online one day and asked on this website if anyone had known anything about the product. Next thing I remember there was a group buy and a bunch of us bought them. I put the Heat Demons on my seeg and sefb and have had not issues for over 2 years now.

I agree, the Heat Demons are better quality and work better. I haven't heard one person having issues with them. There are many people who have had problems with the Harley ones including myself. Plus the little chrome switch with the little lights is much better than twistin the rubber knob.

Interesting info....I thought I would never use or need the ones that came on my Ultra CVO.  But at Sturgis in the storms and heavy rain with no gloves,  I tried mine and it helped.   Now.......per what I see here,  maybe they won't last long. :-\

Hey Scott, been good.

I'm not one for heated Gerbers, electric socks or heated seats but from years on the snowmobile using heated grips are a must. Same on the motrocycle mainly because wearing thick gloves roll over when driving agressivly. The harder you drive the more the thick gloves work then they sweat causing more issue. With heated grips I can then wear thin gloves. I remember leaving MV one year @ 22 degrees having to be in Chicago almost 800 miles later that day and it never got above 45 degrees. Never put on the heavy gloves but wore every ounce of clothes including my rain suit.

I remember that year.  And seeing you on the parking lot as we were both gearing up to leave.  Skims of ice on everything.  I had about 825 back that day also and also used the rain suit for an extra layer.  That made it easier that night though as the last two hours home were in about 45 degrees and a good hard rain.  It's a good thing we had fun that year.  We might have never gone back otherwise.  Coming home last year saw 90 degrees for part of the afternoon and a tshirt the whole trip after about 10:30.

Have heard (on this site) how good the Heat Demons are but don't have any personal experience with them.  I DO have experience with the HD grips and I agree with the conscensus here that they are not worth the time, money and effort to install them and it is almost a certainty that you will have replace them.  I too only got about a month out of mine.  I actually went to the new Gerbing Hybrid Gloves and like them better because the also keep the backs of my hands warm.  I used them (Gerbing Hybrids) last winter, once in single digit temperatures and I was still able to hold on and twist the throttle  8).  If you have not yet opened/used the Harley Heated Grips yet and can return them, I'd go a different route.   Good luck.

FWIW, I took my bike in last week to have the grips replaced. The dealer advised me to wait a few weeks because HD has new grips for 2010 that addresses the problem with them burning out.

Some of the grips are already on Revision C.  That's four times total attempted to get it right.  Nice of them to keep trying....

Harley knows their heated grips are (were) junk.  They should put a promotion in place to make the new style (if reliable) available to folks who have the old ones at a reduced price (free install (?)).  What think the chances of that are  :confused5:
