« on: August 20, 2009, 06:59:33 PM »

Why does the MOCO say you cant install the 113 kit on 110 engines or engines previously upgraded to 110?

The 110 uses an O-ring groove for an O-ring for the cylinder base gaskets. The 113 doesn't. If you're upping a 96", you can should go straight to 113 if you're boring the cases anyway. You can go from 110 to 113, but you must use the O-rings AND the flat base gaskets with Gasketcinch (sp?) to seal the cylinder bases properly. WTF listens to what the MoCo says works or doesn't work anyway?!!! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: ;D ;D ;D ;)

Do you have to bore the cases when going from 110 to 113?

Yessir, absolutely! The bore of a 110 is 4.00". The bore of a 113 is 4.06"! That's why the factory says you shouldn't do it. The O-ring groove might be compromised. But BFD! Just use base gaskets too w/Gasketcinch! ;)

If you are going to bore the cases, just go straight to a 117 build with after market cylinders and pistons. You won't be sorry.

well its too late..    the  Jims seem to work  in a few bikes i have seen.  larger shafts than S&S also and thats not to say  there is anything wrong with S&S , or for that matter   R&R.
Some issues to be worrried about..
Perhaps time will tell

A lot of issues you should be worried about. Their quality sucks big time right now. So many of their engines and flywheel assemblies are going back for warranty. Those are the lucky ones. The ones out of warranty are stuck picking up the tab. If I had my choice it would have been S&S.

then its too late to worry.     have heard of lots of failures, over the years.. so far have not heard anything about the  R&R but give it time.
have heard of some lifter issues   and no crank issues at all..  that is the Jims cranks.  not that there haven't been but i visti a few forums and  that what i have seen. lots of the failures are due to riders that will break the welded and plugged crank assemblies also .   like i said  i won't worry bout the crank.  there are other  cranks i would have to say i am very leary of.

It seems all manufacturers have a degree of mishaps. What ever you get just gotta hope you are in the group without probs. Good luck to you. :2vrolijk_21:

I had issues with the Jims 120 a few years back when they had faulty lifter, which screwed up and grenaded the engine.. They did good by me, they asked me to send engine back for inspection, they replaced with a brand new Jims 120 n/c.

i will say that there are cranks out there that have been welded and plugged by the pro's and they slipped..
The reason being, some people could break an Anvil with a rubber hammer!!                                 just the way it is.
have been riding  for many many years,  run lot of strokers over the years and never ever had one puke. hope  it don't  happen now either. but if it does we deal with it..

I agree, some guys just whack em pretty hard. If ya bang your head against the wall to hard eventially it will split open. For most of us if you treat em right they will hold up. At least that is MHO.
