Anyone mentioned metallic noise from the motor?

My friend owns the O/B and mentioned that sometimes, he hears a metallic sound, which he could not directly point to something. He insisted at the dealer
and now he has the result:

After removing the cylinder-head it has been found that the valve-cover to the valve-guide is loose, or broken. After some clarification it now came to light that even the valve-guide in cylinder-head is loose and this causes the sometimes loud noises. The engine is now broken down and a new cylinder head was appointed.

It's hard to translate the technical part, I hope everyone understands the google-translation.

When did he herd that noise ?
 I sometimes hear some metallic noise when i let the clutch go out too fast , after stillstanding at a traffic light i.e.

That was one of the issues supposedly addressed in the 110 enhancement program, where H-D replaced the heads on the '07 e-glides.  The valve guides could drop completely and hold the valve open, leading to some rather poor running and possible damage.  The fix was a retaining ring around the guide so it couldn't drop.  However, that still doesn't keep the guide from moving in the head if it wasn't fit properly to begin with.  Since you're talking about a '09 model, it appears H-D still has some issues with those heads.

See picture below.
The exhaust valve is stuck open.
I suspect you may have hit the nail on the head with your post above.
This is the head off the front cylinder on my 09 SEUC with 19900 miles on it.

And as to the obvious, the motor don't run very good when the exhaust valve is stuck open regardless of the reason.

Oh chit , i have to let the dealer check this issue at my scooter , i believe in bad things happening to my engine .

The exhaust valve on mine was found to be stuck about an inch higher and had to be pounded on both ends to break loose. Was running fine when I pulled it in for the 0905 job. Must have just happened as I was pulling in. It was the rear head leaking and rear cylinder base. Guides were ok but guide seals were leaking. :nixweiss:

Almost home from a 500 mile trip.
Had to push it the last 500'.

Actually, we were headed home but it quit 500' before the entrance to the Harley shop.
It was closed but I called the owner and he met us there to put it in service!
