Another Rotor Squeal Post
« on: August 24, 2009, 04:07:58 PM »

I've checked the other posts and don't see anything similar to mine, and i did try some of the suggestions, just to eliminate the possibilities.....
I bought a new set of PM Torque wheels and rotors at a rally this past May.  They squealed right off the bat and I took it back and they wanted me to let them work in.  When I got the bike home and on the lift, the front wheel wouldn't even turn a quarter rotation.  Released the pads and pushed the bores back.  Rode it and it still squealed at the last 10 feet of stopping.
Installed LRB Zpads and they do the same exact thing.  Cleaned the pistons, applied vibration goop, sanded pads.  Same.

I don't think it's the caliper or piston.  A telltale I see is the patterns on the rotors.  There is banding where it looks like there is heavy contact and in others very light.  Not constant pressure like on the rear rotor or the old rotors from the old wheel.

Is this a variation of warping of the rotors?  Performance Machine doesn't seem to return emails or phone calls.  I thought they were a better company and product than this......

Are they floating rotors?

No, that was one of the things I was upset to see when I got the bike back.  Downgraded from floaters.  The rotors are bolted to the carriers.  The 13inch rotors float.  I was considering putting my HD floaters that came with the bike back on.  Just to test.

 :cherry:
If you pull the rotors off,  can you lay one on a piece of glass to see if it's warped or not. :nixweiss:

Also,  while I have not tried it....I've heard that sometimes swapping left for right can sometimes make the squeal go away.....assuming your rotor pattern allows for installation on either side.

I've put a straight edge against the rotor to try to explain the banding, but seems smooth to me.  Like I said, the banding is like the rings of Saturn....but 1/2 inch wide, light and dark bands.  On one rotor, on the outside, in an area closest to the center edge, I think the pad is barely touching it.  Not nearly the contact seen in other areas.

I'd call Lyndall Racing, 800-400-9490, and explain the problem. They might be very helpful in recommending a fix :2vrolijk_21:
