Advice on possibly "jumping ship"....
« on: August 25, 2009, 01:20:59 PM »

Hi, all-

I'm on the horns of a dilemma, and maybe you all will have some advice/input for me.  I currently have an '08 SERK and an '09 SE Springer.  I love them both, but in the next few years, I'm planning on doing much more riding and especially long-distance touring.  I'd love to "dress up" the Road King with a Tour Pak and (maybe) a fairing in order to increase luggage space and comfort.  On the other hand, my dealer just got in a '10 Ultra Classic Limited, in exactly the color scheme I like.  With the Limited, I'd be getting the new Touring frame, a bit more carrying capacity, rerouted exhaust, etc.  The other amenities (radio, heated grips, etc.) can be added to the RK, but of course at additional $$.  I'd be losing a little exclusivity going from the CVO to the Limited, but gaining in most other areas.  (The CVO Ultra Glide is out of my price range entirely at this time, so going that route is not an option).
So, do I keep the SERK and spend some bucks getting it ready to tour OR trade it on the Limited and just have the one CVO bike (Springer)?  What do you think?    Thanks!

I've seen the Ultra Limited. It is a fine bike. If you want to have the E-Glide
amenities and do not wish to go for the CVO Ultra, it might be a good choice.
I'd, however, look at any '09 CVO Ultras still out there as an alternative. In my
mind the '09's have a much nicer paintjob and are otherwise practically
identical to the '10's.

Ride safely,
Louis

Definitely new frame. Maybe there's a leftover 2009 CVO Ultra still floating around that a dealer is looking to move. It might be worth looking into.

New frame...like others said, maybe you can find a leftover 09 somewhere. If not you can get by with just 1 CVO bike.

Ed,

I've seen and ridden with the new 2010 limited and it's a great bike.  $.02:  I'd at least look into left over CVO Ultras or even a used 09.  There's never a substitute for power and the 110 is a great motor once you get done with it.  Just a thought.   Good luck with the "dilemma."

Don't waste your time on the mods to the SERK.  Get the limited.  I agree, it looks great and has all the goodies you need for the long hauls.  If an '09 SEUC is out there a the right price, go for it, but the limited seem to be a no brainer.   :2vrolijk_21:
