Trail Of Tears
« on: August 25, 2009, 08:47:19 PM »

I'm going to Chattanooga 9/17 to ride the Trail Of Tears Ride.
This is the first time I've done this ride. The flyer I have said that there may be 100,000 bikes on this ride.
Has anyone been on the ride and have any input or suggestions?

I've been on this ride three times.  There definitely is a chitload of bikes.  In years past the leos had intersections along the route blocked and that helped.  A really great ride - just be up early to get in the front at the staging area. :2vrolijk_21:

Enjoy the ride man.  Hope you find it to be a great deal of fun.  I can remember when the occasional big group ride seemed unique and exciting.  Honestly got over that real fast and a long time ago though.

A large group of strangers is a mixed group of talent and egos.  Always someone that won't stay in place, that has to show off, or that believes whatever it is he has to say to someone 20 bikes is so important it's worth showing his ass to chase in and out of position for.  And those are just the intentional screw ups.  The accidental ones make you suck seat leather up your butt.

We have been on this ride several times. There are so many “newbie’s” it almost is not fun at all! We go from Cherokee NC to Okmulgee OK. The ride from Alabama to OK is the best part only about 200 to 250 bikes.

Went two years ago - some guy riding a bike with paper tags (also had on shorts and tennis shoes), kept trying to ride beside me.  Look I’m a girl, so I decided to mess with him - kept putting the bike in neutral and making a of noise, like I could not find the right gear.. He finally backed off!  :o

     Sounds like a great ride!

According to their web site,  Trail or Tears, "The Tennessee Highway Patrol estimated the ride to be 28 miles in length with approximately 28,000 riders. Approximately 190 riders continued on to Okalahoma with that number growing to an amount such that 300 people were served dinner in Okmulgee, OK."  Still a lot of riders.  If it's anything like the "Love Ride" out here... be careful!   :nervous:

I have rode it twice, once in the first 50 to 75 bikes and once at the very end.  It was fun, but some scary riders on it.

Very true.

Most fun was the third time we did it, rode down to Florance the day before.  Got a room on the main drag.  Sat and drank cold beer watching all the bikes come in.  That was by far the best one, and relaxing.  It is really something to watch thousands of bikes go by.
