I know, old habits die hard.  But you can learn grasshopper.  You can be calm with your power tools.

d00d stand on rice paper as you approach the hinges with your drill
that's how grasshopper would do it.

Those vents have been sitting in the garage for almost two years. It took that long before I could do it. I have to say, though, that the kit and instructions are very complete and that took some of the  :nervous: out of it. I would have preferred finding lowers on ebay to cut up, but they don't show up often or hardly at all. So far I'm pleased with the way they look.

Ok fellas, since I had to do an install myself, I decided to take some pics and share some tips.
First off, cover the effected area to be cut, I use blue painters tape For Delicate Surfaces, on multi colored fairings it's safer. this tape has an orange color on the inside of the roll. I also place the fairing on a rolling base (shop stool) so I can quickly move/adjust it

they give you a template to use, they are right/left specific. lay it on the tape and trace, instructions say 3" down from cap, I do 3" on a glove box, 2.5" on speaker pods.

then you can start to cut. they show some holes to drill for starters but it doesn't really matter. I just plunge a hole anywhere with a spiral cutting bit (zipbit) and work my way around the line, the tool works better in one direction versus another as that is the leading edge of the cutting surface, take some time and figure this out. I cut with this tool all the way to the line, the more you remove with this will save grinding time.

then switch the bit to a small grinding wheel and smooth out the cuts, clean the corners. when I think i got it I take the template and try and pass it through the hole. if it don't fit, neither will the vent, keep checking and grinding. when I'm real close I remove the tape and check again, grind a little if necessary.
key points here:
when you cut, the angle of the cut must be straight down, not following the curve of the fairing.
there are 2- tabs on the vents that lock them in place. I waller out ( relieve) a liitle material at those points, makes the locking easier

And then install the vent,

Larry makes this job look much easier then it actually is because of his experience !

I followed the directions that come with the vents...taped the pattern, and cut it out. Then came the oh CHIT MOMENT.

When I cut mine out somehow the vent pattern was not setting perfect on top of the radius for the pencil mark. So consequently the chrome vent is off 1/4 from fitting perfect over the radius. Ounce you cut it out and snap together the locking vents your done...the vent tabs will break if you try to pry out unlock them.

I would suggest to send your fairings to LarryB for the vent install. He's cut several of these and knows exactly how to do it.

And then install the vent,

...I agree, the inboard tab is too tight and may crack when the unit is pushed in. On one side I took a little more material off the inboard cut and on the other side I trimmed the tab about 2mm. I would say trimming the tab would be the best way. Seat the inboard tab in first then Push/Click done. Doc
