Trying to buy new bike
« on: August 27, 2009, 01:15:47 AM »

Hello all I need your help. I know you guys have bought new bikes over the years and now I want one. I live in IN. and want a CVO Ultra. I understand that I will pay full MSRP + Delivery + Setup and other charges. I know the bike is $35,995 and some dealers want more but I will not pay that. My question is how much is Delivery and setup - most dealers are the same but some want more?

Shop around and you will find it for MSRP with no delivery or setup charges.  I bought mine in November and paid something like $52 under MSRP.  It took me until November to actually find one around here that wasn't grabbed off immediately or already spoken for before it arrived at the dealer.  This year, my main dealer has one that's been sitting on the floor already for a few weeks, and nobody has grabbed it.  It's the blue and gray color and I don't think that will be a very popular color scheme after seeing it, but that's just my opinion.  There were a few red/slate spotted in the area, but they got scooped up immediately.  I don't think that any of the local dealers here try to get more than MSRP.

The set up is just another profit tactic like "documentation fee".  If someone weren't buying it would they leave it in the crate?  Usually it is around $400-500.   Point to one that is already on the showroom and tell them you want the one that is already set up.  Some won't budge on it, others will.  If you are ordering one and plan to have them put accessories on try and get the two combined; no sense paying to put it together then to take it apart again.

I purchased mine for under MSRP at the HF store of Baltimore. They gave me $50 for gas to drive there. I also got lunch, dinner and a hotel for the night. All the extra stuff was about 20% off. Great to buy from but their service sucks.

I think a general answer to your question is difficult. It depends largely on the season your shopping in and the area you want to buy from, and when in the model year cycle you want to have the bike at home. Anyone pre-ordering in June/July for "next years" models would probably paying the highest prices, and anyone grabbing a bike off the dealer floor in January/February (and possible later) would probably pay lowest. The '09 my was a bit different, since production was cut after Q1, hence there were fewer bikes left to choose from. Also, if you are comfortable with buying from a dealer not in your vicinity, your chances of a better deal increase. What goes for the price of the bike also goes for the add-on fees and options, as well as for any "goodies" thrown in.

Ride safely,
Louis

Hello Rider Billy, if you shop around you can find Dealers that will really work with. Most all dealerships charge Delivery and Setup. I have been shopping about 6 weeks for a 2010 SEUC with dealers within 3 or 4 states around me. I have found that most charge $380 for Delivery and $550 for setup and then there are some thats a lot more. I was fine paying MSRP + Delivery + Setup for a total of $36,929.00 + the small fees and Taxes. Now some of the A$$ Hole Dealers wanted a premium Fee of $2,000 to $4,000 for that bike, well you know what I told them, and it paid off. Brad on this board told me about a Dealership in Ottawa OH - Ben Breece HD. Well Bernie and Julie have earned my business forever. I will be more then happy to drive 5 hours to pickup my new bike and all my future bikes. This dealership charges no SETUP or DELIVERY plus they gave me $1,000 off MSRP. I'm am a customer for life, just when I thought all dealerships was created equal here comes Ben Breece HD that is a dealer for the customer, now when was the last time someone said that. If your in the market for a new bike check them out. www.benbreecehd.com   Tell them the happiest SOB in the world told you to call,

I am happy with my dealership as well.

The best thing I can say to you is don't pay more then MSRP as far as set up fees go. It may be hard to find a dealership that won't charge it, more will charge then won't I will say.

Keep it as low as possible and take the dive. In a few months of riding one you'll forget all about those Menial fees.

Your right about forgetting the fees over time. Without pulling out the paperwork I cannot tell the fees that I paid on my 08 Fatboy. I know I paid MSRP + and + and + but after riding it all goes away. Good Advise, buy the bike and ride.  :coolblue:
