I've got both sizes.  Chopped won't hold anything bigger than a half helmet.  It's looks are a bit deceiving when you start trying to put things in it.  Holds a little.  But not much more than a little.  Cameras, water bottle, spare sweatshirt, easy access stuff.  But it looks better (at least to me).

King will hold any helmet.  A pair of most helmets.  Will also hold enough to go riding for several days or brings a few things home from the market.  It's more functional but less visually appealing.  Some BSRs really like the bigger backrest often found on King tour paks.

If I got a do over, it would be the king size. I only mount it for touring so appearence is second to function. JMO.

When are you going to use it most.... daily or travel?

Will you leave it on all the time... permanent or detachable?

I have a KTP (w/o the fancy billet hinges... thought I'd add the before someone else did ::)) and only use it when I have to (travel). Personally I like the look of my bike w/o a TP on the back.

get the king.   much more practical and you will want it after you buy the chopped.    I did. So just but it once.

I have the Chopped on my  2009 SERG and was quite surprised that it held enough stuff - including using the saddle bags for a week long trip to the Dragon last month. I was disappointed that the king tour pack came out after I purchased the chopped but now I'm really pleased I have the chopped. I learned during my cross country trip to pack wisely and compact. I feel very comfortable now that in 2010 when I take my next cross country trip that I can get everything I need in my chopped and saddle bags for a 3 week trip (wash clothes while you're on the road) - you have to pack right and I don't carry extra helmets. And if I want to carry additional stuff, I have the pillion to strap things on.

I know most people rather have the king for touring but the chopped is what I have and I'm sticking with it.

You will never be sorry with the King, but you may be sorry with the chopped. If you are using it for travel, it's much better to have too much space than be short. And too much space is an overstatement, as it all gets used anyway.  Get the King.

Another factor is passenger comfort.  King gives you a much better back rest for your BSR

You can always take less stuff with you in a king but you cant take more in a chopped, and somehow when I travel I always end up with more stuff than I originally packed so the extra room is great. Be careful though, those who ride with you and have chopped paks always seem to find some stuff to put into mine because they are out of room....Big plus my BSR is much happier with the seating arrangement with the King

It's like a windshield all bikes look better with the smaller one or none at all.

But when you ask which one works the best you end up with the bigger one.

This is the time to go with best function not the best look.

After all you already own the best look (no tour pak) so when you need looks vs. function it is just a couple clicks away.

Chopped looks cleaner but I would still go with the king. Just my $.02 :confused5:
