Fullsac Baffels
« on: September 08, 2009, 02:08:01 PM »

I finally got Petunia back together and have the Fullsac 2" baffles.  I will say they are quite loud (to me) at 107 db's.  I don't know that the stock sound limit is, but I believe it is 80 db's.  For reference, a 10 db increase is twice as loud.  So going from 80 db's to 90 db's is twice as loud.

I read some posts about packing the mufflers and I guess what I am reading is it does not work.  Is this correct?  Do I need to go the the 1.75" baffles to quite the bike?

From what I have heard the 1.75" baffles will quiet the bike down. You could call Steve at Fullsac and get his opinion as he has heard them all and can compare them to stock for ya.

I have the 1.75" baffles in my bike. The sound is a deep low rumble and in my opinion it’s not loud at all. I feel that I can ride through any neighborhood not have to worry about taking it easy on the throttle.

I've had both the 1.75" and 2.0" Fullsac baffles.  The 1.75" are quieter than the 2.0" but it's not a substantial difference.  You could try pulling the screens and packing out and wrapping the screens with new packing that may be more sound absorbent than the stock packing.  I did this and it seemed to help a little.  I bought the packing on eBay and it appears to be some good stuff.

When I installed my 2" Fullsacs the screens stayed in the CVO mufflers. How are they held in, and will I mess them up trying to remove them?
I don't like the sound of my pipes at idle. Not bashing Fullsac here. It's the configuration of what I'm running, no doubt.
Thinking of changing mufflers for a 4th time, adding packing to the ones I have, or trying the 1.75" Fullsacs. I wouldn't mind if I quieted things down while I'm at it. I recall they make about 101 db at idle; 107-ish at part throttle.

Anyone with any other ideas?

It might just be my opinion that they are louder than I want, so I wouldn't rule them out quite yet.
I'm running the 2" Fullsacs in the stock CVO cans on V&H True Duals. I have a TC Road King with a 95" Headquarters build, HQ headwork, HQ 0039 cams, approx. 9.5:1 compression. I have less of an issue with the db level than I am the 'odd' tone at idle. I ALWAYS wear earplugs 'cause I can't take the top end noise of the TC.

I spoke to Fullsac about the difference between the 1.75" baffles and the 2.0" baffles.  I was told the vast majority of the sound increase was due the the removal of the cat.  This makes sense to me.  I do love the increased performance, but need a way to quite the bike down.  BTW, I wear ear plugs too.

Has anyon tried this?

When I pulled the stock baffles, there was plenty of packing in the mufflers which came out with the baffles.  I reused the packing with the fullsac cores.  At first, I drilled cat but now with a new cam (Andrews 54) I have replaced the headpipe with a catless one from fullsac.  Sounds great and not too loud...   Power feels great.
