« on: September 09, 2009, 07:50:41 AM »

Wife has a black mustang convertable. I would like to treat the top with something, any ideas?

Use a product called RaggTopp from Autogeek.com on my ragtop vette.  Only product recommended by Haartz, the manufacturer of the material.

Need to buy the cleaner and protectant.  Lasts about 18 months.  Beads up like wax.

Pain in the ass to use but works great.

Just googling around and found:

Not ever owning a convertable I am not sure what to use and what brand to go with but I did find some interesting facts on the above sites.

The other products are OK but the RaggTopp is the best I have found by far.  Also, the most expensive by far and you have to order it online.  I couldn't find it in San Antonio anywhere.

Thanks guys. Sounds like one more thing to clean and rub on. Been using micro fiber cloth the wash the top since the first and last time I used a wool mitt, what a mess that left with all the fibers stuck to the top. She has been running the wheels off of that car this summer and I wanted to do something on the top before I store the car for winter.

It sounds like you have a cloth top so do as Diamondback says and treat with Raggtopp..  Don't use any soap on a cloth top and use only a sponge and clear water.

Thanks for the tip on that stuff. :2vrolijk_21:

Was wondering what to use. I put a new Robbins Replacement Cloth top on my Miata. I ordered the Raggtopp Kit here: Amazon.com: RAGGTOPP Convertible Top Care Kit - Fabric

Make sure it is clean and dry.  Cover the glass and rear window to avoid the overspray.  Try to spray outside with no wind and then let the car/top dry in the sun.  Your new top will thank you for it.  Top will bead/repell water like mad.

Anything special about applying the cleaner?

It has been a while since I used the cleaner but I believe you just spray it on, scrub with a soft brush, and rinse thoroughly with water.  The last top was new so I just used the protectant.

You wet it down, clean it with a soft cloth, let it dry completely and then spray on the protectant.

I agree on covering as much of the vehicle as possible to avoid the over spray issue.

Works good.  Beads up like wax.
