SERG Backrest Adjustment
« on: September 09, 2009, 04:46:29 PM »

I have the CVO backrest for my serg. It's a non-adjustable one.(other than when you first put in it place) My question is when I sit with the backrest in place, it sits me to far forward. I would like to lean a little further back. The backrest is all the way back, but it's the angle not the location. Is there a way to lean it back, or do I need to bend the vertical bars? Has anyone done a little tweeking with theirs. I hope this makes sence.

I have bent the bars on mine.  I used a press to keep everything even.

It has an adjustment screw for backrest angle. Did that not help? Or did you overlook it?

I have backed that out as far as it will go without falling out. Thanks for the idea.

For what its worth, I  hated the stock seat / back rest on the '09 SERG. So I put the backrest in a vice, and heated up the two support bars with a torch and bent the backrest pad back about 1/2 inch. ... It helped, but now I have a Corbin Solo that I love.

I had to install the bracket that goes under the seat in the last hole. If not it would push me too far foward. I think the instructions are wrong.

I have bent the bars on mine. Don't use a torch! Just put it in a vise and use a pipe wrench if you are not strong enough to bend it use a cheater pipe slide a pipe over the handle of the pipe wrench and you should be able to bend the bars, You can do one at a time but don't bend it to far, then go test ride it, not what you want repeat the bending process again until the angle is there. Knowing what I know now about that back rest I would never have purchase it, looks good but for 200 plus mile trips it sucks an long with the seat. Will replace both at some point.

I have the SERG backrest, using it with a Sundowner seat and love it. 500 mile days no problem. Didn't heat or bend it, just use the center of the vertical three holes and it works good. I bolted it to the fender in the holes that let the bracket center in the seat opening. No Problems or complaints. Adjusted angle with setscrew to comfortable angle, then used a little locktight on it.

Glad to see someone else (DW6019) is happy with the back rest too. At first I thought it was too far forward but now I like it. I rode from Sturgis to Lethbridge, Alberta (12 hours of riding) and I could have gone longer if it didn't get dark.

Spot on Dave...I did the same thing except I have an old backrest bracket, I put it in that so I would get the bend in the right place. I also took a wet washcloth and stuck it up in the backrest when the leather is so I didn't mees anything up ..

Which of the holes are you guys using on the bracket under the seat? There is a big range between the holes.
