FLHTK Results
« on: September 09, 2009, 08:32:53 PM »

S/E Air Cleaner
CVO mufflers with 1 3/4 cores (off my '09)
Gutted cat, and re-welded head pipe
TTS tune
Gain of 10HP and 10lbs Torque after 100 miles on the dyno!! LOL (Thanks, Steve)

Not too bad for a basic stock 103. We did a little research on the new 103 as far as parts. Seems they are exactly the same as the 96" bikes except for the bigger bore and addition of ACR's. Cams, heads, TB same-o as the 96 incher. All 2010 bikes now have cats in the exhaust system.
Found that the S/E air cleaner robbed 2 HP with filter and cover installed. Best bet would probably be that big sucker, straightens out the air flow.

I've got some interesting pics, just have to figure out how to get them outta my camera and onto here!

HOGMIKE,

I tried to find the wiring for ACR and I could not, looked in the centre of the Rocker Box and could not find any indication of wiring to activate the ACR. Also looked in the area around the spark plugs and could not see any ACR/ Where are they located?

What cams are in the bike? Throttle Body is a 50mm.

ACR's wiring is between the cylinders above the TB, there is a new plastic clip that holds them to the TB bracket between the heads, wiring goes under the rocker covers like the police bikes.
Cams are the same as the 96 incher....not the greatest choice, but, H-D has to meet all the emissions and such.
Depending on your dealer, H-D 255's or Andrews 54's would really be a great choice for this otherwise stock engine, and keep your warranty.

HOGMIKE,

Thanks for the info in regards to the ACRs.

I am considering the 255s or the Andrews 54s Dughnut Cam.

From what I've seen, the 54's would probably be a better choice if warranty is not an issue with your dealer. That is my next upgrade along with a decent air cleaner.

I've been waiting for your results before doing anything with mine.

10 & 10 doesnt seem like much, how does it ride?
Did you have to have the ECM flash or does the TTS bypass that requirement?
Are you looking at the Ness AC or the HD and did you tune with anything other than the SE AC?

Thanks!

10 and 10 was all we could get out of the 103. the 110 showed a little more improvement. I think my 103 is not typical, it's more a dog than most.......oh well. My 96 incher showed about the same improvement and feels stronger than the 103!
the TTS was a complete ECM program that replaces the stock map. This new map was the result of many hours of dyno time. Of course, I still have my stock ECM program if I ever want to go back (NOT!)
The nice thing about the Mastertune program is that there is a map for just about any setup you can do, and if you want to get REALLY precise with your bike, you can always do the V-Tune to get the VE's spot on.
We took some base line pulls with the stock AC and mufflers and cat. We found that the SE AC showed about a 2hp gain without the element and cover installed. The air has to make a 90 degree turn into the TB. Harley has a nice AC (28716-10) that would probably work well.
Other 96 inchers and 110 inchers with cams showed great increases with the similar setup of pipes and AC, and the valve train was very quiet!

Geezer,  I used to run an 04 RG Cratae 103".  Hi flow, true duels and an HD 257 cam.  Bike was a screamer (pardon the pun).  Actually ran stronger that the 09 SERG until I went with the Andrews 54.  If you want the 255's I have a set I'll let go cheap.

Greg,

Thanks for the offer on the Se 255s, however I think I am going to the Andrews 54s.

curious what you had for numbers? i have one of these bikes also. its 6 days old now 1100 miles, and  its running better than when it was at 0 miles.. they are a real dog. reminds me of the 07 CVO. actually it think it would outrun my CVO in the pure stock  form .. a little better gear.   anyone know what cam is in these   Limited's.
also what kind of  gas milage do ya get..  i know mine is pretty thirsty to say the least.

I'm getting a fraction under 40 running 2 up all the time.  Same cam as in the stock Ultra.

Got about 42mpg before dyno time, running about 80 solo.
Got about the same after dyno, same route as before. Not as good gas mileage as my '09 Ultra was getting......but, thinking more miles on the new bike will help a bit.

i usually ride  tow up and run 70 mph  by the GPS  speedo is a couple mph off as the odometer is off too.   its going to show better milage  than what you will get useing a GPS..
I been in the 37.2 mpg area and did get 38.2 once, about half  tank of gas used at 61 mph.  rest at 70 mph
The bike is new and things have to adjust i guess and the may be a little better milage, i havent; twisted it yet!. just riding around and enjopying the bike.. one thing we have to remember is this bike is 901 at running order,, so ya add a couple people to it and you have a lot of weight to pull around as wel as the mass to push through the air. especially if we are bucking a wind..

Hogmike,

Thanks for the info, can you post the dyno chart from the work you did this week?
Did you notice the typical change in temp on the right side? Is it running cooler?

What's your timing for the next step (cams & Heavy Breather)?
Are 255's gear driven? Any other mods required with them (adj pushrods, etc)?

I can't figure out how to scan my dyno chart and get it on here....lemme see if I can figure it out.
Bike is running  a little cooler, rode across the desert for about 3 hrs, oil temps running about 250, cooler than the 270 on the first trip.
I'll probably go with the heavy breather, just for leg clearance. My SE A/C robs about 2hp. They make one now to fit a bike with lowers.
Leaning for the Andrews 54's, but, gonna ride that bike first for a "seat of the pants" dyno test. Also seems to be quieter than the 255's. (Chain drive)
sticking with the stock chain drive cams.
