Tire Balancing & Weights
« on: September 10, 2009, 12:39:15 PM »

Duh!

Gotta a question.

I noticed that my rear rim has shed the OE lead wheel balance weight (small stick-on lead weight) and informed my dealer (warranty still in effect) to which he (lead mechanic) responded; "If your not feeling any vibration, I would'nt worry about it". That said, I went away but still with the question in my mind if his answer was the right one.

Later, during the course of a a cleaning, I noted that I do not see a front wheel balance weight (and can't recall if I ever had one) and that there is no remnant of one having been installed (i.e. sticky adhesive, etc).

Thus my question(s);

1 - what would you do?, listen to the dealer or insist that they replace it within the warranty (of course, that means pulling the rear wheel, spin balancing and reinstal),

2 - same for the front? Does your's have a weight on the front rim?

I would have BOTH wheels balanced.  Yes, both front and back get weights.

When my bike came from the factory they didn't have weights on them and I went until I had new tires put on them before they ever did. Never had a problem w/them at all. Front tire replaced at 20k, and rear replaced at 15k. From what I understand there is a way to "index" a tire on a wheel that makes it possible for none or little weights to be used. Do I believe this was done at the factory??....The things that make you go 'Hmmm". :-\ Either way I never had a problem and consider the tire life I got out of both to be average if not above. :nixweiss:

These chrome CVO rims and them throwing wheel weight on em, was exactly why I went to Dynabeads, with so far no adverse effects! ;)

So the dynabeads don't seem to have any effect on the wobble?

They don't seem to. I adjusted the neck bearings again and the wobble got a lil better, after I installed the Dynabeads. Mind you, it's not gone, but much better. But the Dynabeads didn't do that, the neck bearing adjustment did. My wobble's not as bad at 110 as you saw it last time, but it's still there. The Dynabeads had NO impact on that at all! Hope you speak to TMan about this before MV! ;)
