Inner Primary

Thoughts on Inner Primary cover. I would love to have the chrome- but is there a
possible downside mechanically to letting the dealer do it?

As long as its done right I don't think there is a mechanical downside. The sure would be a financial downside though. Its about a 2 hour job + a primary gasket and fluid

If you have the tools and are mechanically able its a pretty easy job. The only thing special you'll need is an electric impact to get the comp nut loose

I went with the chrome inner primary. My stealer only charged 1.5 hrs to install it and as mentioned, you will need a new gasket & fluid. I had a "cover" on my 95 fxstc and I definitely like the look of the actual chrome inner primary as opposed to the cover.

I had mines done at the dealer, as has been mentioned above "if you have the tools and expertise" go for it. If you do/don't decide to do it yourself plan it during one of the times you are changing your primary fluid you can save a few bucks there. BTW they really look nice, and it will make you want more chrome. Consider yourself warned

Perfect timing for this thread.  Scored a new chrome inner primary (HD part) on eBay a couple nights ago for $165.00.  A Xmas bargain  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I have had 4 HD Chrome Inner Primary Covers installed by HD dealer
Not a one has every given me trouble
Now I must state that I only use Genuine HD Parts as I have seen Chrome Exchange Primary covers cause leaks and such

Careful Chrome is Addictive

Had a leak being fixed under warranty so they put the chrome inner on without charging any labor!  Something to keep in mind...
