most dealer techs pump enough grease into neck that it ooozes all over and never take the time to wipe off the excess. I use a wood tongue depressor to remove as much as I can, popcicle stick works too, then take a rag and wipe off the rest. Skippy strikes again

Take it Easy Greasy Cuz it's a long walk home.

Did I shave my head for this?

when my biked is parked in the garage in summertime I will sometimes fold up a paper towel and pack it up in next to the neck on the left side, this  will help

I've found that this will happen even if you don't overfill, if you're using the so-called "special purpose" grease that Harley sells for steering head bearings.  They specifically mentioned on the container that it wouldn't drip or run, and when I popped the lid off the tube there was a half inch of liquid staring at me.  So much for their claims.

Find a better brand of high temp multipurpose grease and tell MoCo to find a "special" place to stick their "special purpose" grease.  Then follow the instructions the others have posted about cleaning any excess that seeps out while you're filling the bearings.
