Time to replace rear brake rotor
« on: September 16, 2009, 08:42:33 PM »

Hello all,

Time to replace the rear stock rotor and I was wondering if I should stay with the stock Harley rotor or go after market.  I noticed a post that Lyndall is making a SS rotor.

Thanks and ride safe!

How many miles did you get out of the rotor and were you using 'stock' pads the entire time?  How do your front rotors look in terms of wear? :nixweiss:  spyder

40K on rear only because I didnt pay attention to the pads and they chewed up the rotor. I thought I had asked the dealer to change the pads when the changed the rear tire.  I have to go back and look at my maint. records.

40K on the front as well but they look good. I may replace all 3 if the price is right instead of just doing the rear.

Are you running the Apex rotors?

I understand that you have to use the red plus pads.

Thanks!

The stock rotors with better aftermarket pads work fine for me.  If you're looking for bling, that's pretty much a waste in the rear.  If you're looking for better brake performance, it's much more important to do the fronts since that is where the real stopping power is.  But the rotors aren't the limiting factor even in the front, that would be calipers and pads.  So I guess it's all about what you really want to accomplish. :confused5:

Still using the stock rotors with over 62K miles.  I use the z pads and love um!  I agree with Jerry's previous post, but might consider changing out the front rotors for the bling factor when these stocks finally wear out.  The stock rotors are pitifully ugly.  :-[ JMHO.  har!  spyder
