Removing the rear fender
« on: September 17, 2009, 05:48:40 AM »

Is it a difficult job to remove the stock rear fender ( european version )  and replace it with a stock one ( us-version ) ?
Could one do it yourself just with tools or are there welding-points ?
Does anybody have the HD-number and price of this us-version rear-fender in stardust silver , should be this number : 59669-09CZB $560.
I think you are only allowed to get one ready painted when you own a us-SERG , could anybody check it please ?

it is protected because it is proprietary to the SERG. Not hard to remove, just get out a parts tray and keep track. Klaus, I don't recall all the differences but what exactly are you trying to do?

I want a SERG without that huge ugly stock ( european version ) taillight , replace the fender with a US version and put on a rear-brake-license plate - light directly above the license plate , a LED light from customchrome or whatver , i am still searching a small chromed LED rear-brake light ( within license plate light ) .
 Anybody has a suggestion ?
The yellow turn signals will stay ( law )

the bottom part is an EZ do, but the top where the tail light is is different, I might look for some cool medallion or similar to cover the hole once you remove the light. Or, like I said before, move to the states, AFTER I'm done with your stuff  :huepfenlol2: :2vrolijk_21:

A fitting cover-the-hole would solve the problem easily and cheapest , would be very nice if you ( or any other too ) would find one .
Great  :2vrolijk_21:

Moving to USA is reall an option since i noticed that i am a Harley-junkee .  ::)

Just gathering info:

If you are required to have yellow turn signals, I'm assuming they also do not have Brakelight functionality.

So how do you intend to retain brakelight functionality without the brake light.

I assume you would like a better looking brake light mounted lower on the fender? What are you laws pertaining to the Brakelight?

From Chicago HD: They give 20% but there are others that do as well.

toll free:1.888.338.6868
Tel: 847.418.2929
Fax: 847.412.6868

Your part number is correct:

 59669-09CZB      FENDER ASY,RR/DOM,FLTRSE3,SILVER   Retail Price:$560.00
 Our Price:$448.00

Klaus, looking at the parts manual, it appears there is no difference mounting a US or international fender.

What about getting an electronics person to rewire / change your rear LED's?  I'm thinking some one could insert some red LED's in the bottom half for tail and break lights in red and the top half could still be your yellow turn signals.  Just a thought....

That should have been the way the MoCo should have solved this problem from beginning , a divided LED-module , half yellow and half red or black , this would have been a acceptable solution for the EU-models , but they just put in the old style taillight maybe it was easiest to do .

My idea :
This eagle horn cover transformed as a medaillon fitting the shape form and size of the taillight-hole .

If you want pdf copies of the SERG rear fender removal out of the SERG supplement shop manual, pm me with an email address.

Had some Canadians pull into Reno Tuesday.  One was on a Canadian SERG.  Saw it up close and personal.  I really feel your pain.

Wouldn`t this chrome liberty eagle insert http://www.chromedomemotorcycleproducts.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=225 be a perfect cover for the hole ?

That's a pretty big cover.  Does it need to be that big?

Have you ever looked at the fender tip lights at the bottom of the fender?  I believe most are set up as running lights, but it may be possible to convert to a dual element and run both brake and running lights.  Also, what's on the Street Glides with their new fender tip light?  Do they also have the big light in the non-US editions?
