to wrap or not to wrap-Fullsac
« on: September 20, 2009, 10:22:32 AM »

cat removed, 2" Fullsac baffles on the way. I've gotten mixed messages on the sound of these baffles. some would say they are comperable to reinharts, which if true would be great (loved the sound of the duals on my '07 street glide). If I'm actually understanding any and all of the posts on this sight , it would seem that leaving the packing in the mufflers would only impact the crispness (for lack of a better term) and not really do anything to the volume. Is this right ? anyone--- :-\

Sound is very subjective, But IMHO they sound much nicer with the packing intact, also a nice barrier keeping the exhaust heat away from the chrome body

I've got the 2" Fullsac's, factory insulation, stock crossover intact, with no other mods. Sound is awsome IMO!! Nearly the same as Rinehardt (also just my opinion). Steve at Fullsac was great to deal with! Steve assured me it'll get louder when I eliminate the crossover, add the tuner, and change the air intake as planned, but right now I'm pleased. If I may put it another way, it's loud enough to get the attention of the cop going the other direction, but not loud enough that he pulls a U-turn! lol

Had the 2" Fullsacs in an identical set of stock mufflers but w/o the insulation; had a "tinney" sound and the level was the same. Just for the hell of it I checked exiting exhaust CFM with a flow meter with and w/o insulation (packing). Same numbers on both, not sure if this kind of reference would matter, but all the insulation (packing) did was change the tone.

I've got 2 inch baffles in a CVO 110 with the cat removed on my wife's bike, I also have thenm on a stock 2010 stage 1 with the cat removed. Muffler sound quality is highly variable to the hear of the beholder. Having said that, I am very pleased with the deep rumble from both bikes. I usually find Reinhart's to be to noisy for my taste, so I believe the Fullsac's 2 inch are quieter.

I have heard Free Birds and they sound very good.  I also, agree that my Rineharts sound better after I took the baffles out and packed them with baffle material.  Softened the sound and reduced the overall loudness quite a bit but they are still noticeable.

Ultrabeef, I think if you leave the packing in you will get a more mellow sound. On my 09 SEUC (silver) I have the HD open air cleaner, non cat header,1.75 fullsac baffles with packing left in and Fullsac map to go with this combo. I am very happy with the performance and the sound. At idle it is just slightly louder than stock, but when you crack the throttle you get this nice mellow harley sound that we all love. I think if you leave the packing in you will enjoy the sound and it will be loud enough but not tinny. I don't think the 2 inch fullsacs will be anywhere near as loud as the reinharts I have heard unless you increase your compression. Good Luck. CAHDBIKER

I'm hoping once I get back to the States I can find someone in Colorado with the Fullsac/no cat set-up so I can hear it. Not sure what size to go with either... as a rookie HD owner, I'm not sold on the louder is better theory just yet... lol

I like the 1.75".  On a 09 SERG.

You'll probably like the 1.75"  size then. The 2" MAY show 1HP increase, but, maybe not!
My 2" cores on my bike with true duals and the big engine is loud when I gas it, but, very nice at cruise. The smaller engine with the smaller cores (stock exhaust) is VERY civilized and I can hear my tunes just fine!

I'm leaning towards the 1.75", but am hoping to get a chance to hear those or the 2", so I can have an idea how one of the other sounds. After reading the board for 3 months before I got my bike, I saw all the posts about how much the stock exhaust note sucked... but when I actually heard it, I didn't think it was that bad... but then it is my first HD, so what do I know?  :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:
