« on: September 21, 2009, 12:34:28 AM »

The new rear-brake-light does have 3 cables ( black and red and yellow ) .

Probably on the stock harnass;  Black is ground, Red/Yellow is brakes, Blue is lights.

But, I might be color blind.

Probably on the stock harnass;  Black is ground, Red/Yellow is brakes, Blue is lights.

But, I might be color blind.

I installed a LED spoiler on top of my chopped tour-pak.  It had the same three wires.

Under the seat just in front of the battery there is a 4-pin square plug with a cap on it.  With my spoiler LED I got a 4-pin plug.  One of the male pins in the bike side harness turns off/on with the ACC switch on the steering head.  One will come on regardless of the acc switch and will stay on with ign or acc and that's the one I hooked my tail light to.  In that harness there is also a pin that comes on with the brake lights; that of course is the one I hooked my LED brake light to.

I had a Back Off brake light modulator so rather than hooking it up to the rear stock LED's, I hooked it in the LED spoiler circuit and it works great.  When I hit the brake lights the spoiler will flash the 4 times and then stay on for about 4 seconds and then it just keeps repeating the pattern.  This leaves the original vertical LED's to do their own thing with brakes and turn signal.

I put a couple male/female plugs on the "brake" wire so when I remove the tour-pak all I have to do is unplug them all and off it comes.

Just wondering, why don't cars take advantage of the tail light modulators on the third brake light?  It would be very easy to just series in the Back Off module and I think it would really add to the safety factor.  I travel freeway everyday and both in the morning and evening it's sometimes a parking lot on I-70.  When you ride the brakes in this type of driving, the modulating third brake light would keep the traffic behind you reminded of your brake lights.

Highjagger, good luck with your wiring.
