NEW STUFF---Ceramic Hybrid Bearings

Well we need a new technology to debate from time to time so it's time to shake the tree again and see what you guys think......

Is anybody familiar with these bearings and/or have you tried them??? I'm hearing good things about them.......

We supply them to all the NHRA Prostock motorcycle teams and NHRA Car teams , many ADRL Promod Motorcycles and Cars. Larry McBride's Top Fuel Drag Bike which runs high 5 second 1/4 mile times at almost 250 mph uses 26 of our bearings for the last 4 seasons with zero failures, we supply many AMA factory Superbike and MX teams with wheel and transmission bearings.

I just returned from Speedweek in Bonneville where many motorcycles run our bearings including John Noonan , Leslie Porterfield , Jason McVicar , and Kent Riches .

Our wheel bearings have seen an average of 4hp at the rear wheel just measuring the rear wheel. Most of our customers claim their bike feels like it lost 100lbs just pushing it. Another one of my customers swears he picked up 3 miles a gallon in fuel economy testing.

All our bearings are assembled in Cedar Grove NJ using Cerbec USA made Silicon Nitride balls that are 60% lighter than steel balls and also harder than steel balls. Ceramic bearings last 3 to 5 times longer than steel and we have seen up to 8 times longer in some cases. The end result is a cooler running bearing that offers 40% less friction.

They come greased like any other bearing with seals. They are a "install and go". Ceramic runs on much less grease volume than a steel bearing. They are also not fragile or brittle like you might think. If you hit a steel ball with a hammer it would dent , a ceramic ball wouldn't even chip. "

The cost for stock replacement wheel bearings are $80-$105.00 each.

So, a little clarification, $80-105 per wheel or $160-210 per wheel?  I seems to me there are 2 bearings in each wheel.  Do you use the same tools to remove/install them? 

Interesting subject.

I have experience using ceramic bearings in industrial applications - super high heat environments - up to 700c.  All low rpm applications - but they have a great track record... :2vrolijk_21:

Well it ought to be interesting to see what the rest of the guys think after they have had a chance to read up on the subject some.

To answer the question posed, it's $80-$105 per bearing. So you'll need 5 bearings--Front Wheel 2, Rear Wheel 2 and the rear belt sprocket 1.

Now I am not suggesting any of us replace our current bearings with these. It's just too expensive at the current cost. But the technology is interesting to follow.

I can't believe there is a 4hp drag on a race bike with conventional bearings--WOW!!!
