Which Red Line product?
« on: December 09, 2005, 05:21:40 PM »

Which are the preferred Red Line products for the trans. and primary.  I have been running Syn3 in everything, but I believe the trans. and primary would be smoother with a real gear oil.  Suggestions?

Well, I'm pretty much a newbie too, but I've just changed to Redline Heavy Duty Shockproof (a synthetic) in the transmission.

Redline HD Shockproof in the Tranny and a good syn oil (Amsoil, redline, mobil 1, syn 3 ect.) in the engine and primary.

So it's pretty unanimous, Heavy ShockProof in the trans., but the primary is still divided between Syn3 and the MTL.  Thanks!  As usual, the knowledge and experience here is the best!

I use Redline MTL in the transmission and in the primary.  Here on our dyno, we find that Heavy Shockproof and 6-speed transmissions gobble up about 6 h.p. (more stuff spinning around).  Personally, I found the Shockproof to be a bit heavy and changed to MTL in the transmission on all my bikes.  The bikes (FLSTSCI & FLTRI) shift every bit as smoothly and seem to shift easier with the MTL.  I also like having just one fluid for both the engine and transmission.  BTW, I use Mobil1 V-Twin in the engine.

That is exactly my reaction about the redline in the transmission, Big Time.  It is a marked improvement. :D
