My 2002 totaled FLHRSEI needed 94 parts and over 25 hours labor.

The insurance company offered me $22,000 and after I showed receipts for over $35,000 - they wrote me a check for $32,380. I can't remember the exact price but insurance company offered to sell me my wrecked SE RK back to me for around $6,000 - I decided I didn't need to look at it and it was hauled off. Whoever bought the wrecked scooter didn't ask for any of the additional pieces like: back rest - rider and passenger, bike storage cover, keys and a few other miscellaneous pieces. The scooter was pretty much junk as the frame was bent in a couple places and all the fiberglass was all broken, not a pretty site.

Hey Dawg   A possible warning here. Most states have laws that prevent adjusters from buying vehicles they total. The reasons for this are fairly obvious. Legally, it gets dicey doing what your friend is talking to you about. Technically you buy the bike, but if there's a money trail between you and him then- - - - - - -I think you can finish the sentence.

Yeah, 'er 'uh, DAWG,
In the Great State of WV, a salvage title is issued when "Total Loss", is documented, and the vehicle is (1) already titled in WV, or (2) had out of State title, and was bought or surrendered for storage, by or to, a WV Business or individual.  If one decides to repair the salvage for resale, one must have "WR" Dealer license, make appointment with local DMV office for on-site inspection, before repair pictures, title, free and clear of all liens and encumberances, current WV inspection sticker, and documentation of repairs.  You will then be issued a "Reconstructed Title."  If you are not a Dealer, you must pay tax, title, and license fees, on the spot.  In the Commercial Truck Industry and Passenger Car Industry, a "Reconstructed" title reduces the Loan Value by 50% in the eyes of the Lender.  And, like you said, it doesn't affect values for Motorsickles.  Harley's, that is.  Later--HUBBARD

Actually it takes some really really bad damage to total a CVO my pumpkin that was just involved in an accident had 11,000 dollars of damage done to it.   They said it would take 80% damage to total the bike.   That means over 20,000 dollars of damage or more.

I think you will find that all states have insurance commissions that set the laws to protect the insured. Most states make the insurance companies declare a total loss at 60% of the accual cash value of the vehicle. Some might be a bargin, if the buyer is capable of making the repairs. This makes ebay and other online purchasing dangerous. Lately a lot of flood bikes have been showing up on the market. Buyer beware!
