Solo Trip to TN and North GA
« on: September 23, 2009, 09:57:12 AM »

My wife had her 30th year class reunion the second week of September and I took this as an opportunity to take a little solo trip. We live in Louisville KY and the reunion was in Cowan TN. Cowan is at the foot of Monteagle Mountain on HWY 41.

She was part of the organizing committee and she had to be there a couple of day before the actual reunion. If I would have hung around, it would have been way too much like work.

So my destination was farther south. I traveled through Trenton GA and I wanted to stop at Cloudland Canyon, but I did not have the time. Other points of interests or small towns were: LaFayette, Chattahoochee National Forest, Villanow, The Pocket, Lake Marvin, Sugar Valley, Calhoun, Adairsville, Pine Log, Fairmount, Carters Lake, Chatsworth, Fort Mountain, Ellijay, Cherry Log, Blue Ridge, Morganton Point, Blue Ridge Lake, Monteagle Mountain, and University of the South.

This was my first multi-day solo trip, all-in-all it wasn’t bad. I stopped when I wanted to, I left when I wanted to, I stayed as long or as short as I wanted, ate when and where I wanted, and not one bit of drama (hard to imagine…).

Put a little over 1100 miles on the bike and had a great time. Some of the days were a little overcast, so the photos are not the best.

The following URL is a sampling of the photos taken:

Looks like a great trip. I'm amazed at how full the lakes are there. Here in Ca. they are way down now.

Looks like a great trip. I'm amazed at how full the lakes are there. Here in Ca. they are way down now.

I live in Knoxville, TN about 125 miles north  of where the pics are taken, We have several huge Lakes here that are controled by TVA and also has a lot to do with the lakes and rivers south of here, Our lakes have been low for the last couple of years as well, But as of now we are just under 10" above normal rain for the year and still raining. Everything is still green the fall colors have not started yet. And by now they have started changing.

we have had no shortage of rain here in GA. There is more to come this week, lots of folks have not even started to recover from the last flood.

carters lake is one of my favorites.. Very lucky to live here with all the great rides here in GA,TN, NC. I hope to explore more of the great west in the years to come  :2vrolijk_21:

THANKS FOR THE PICS.
