noob with exhaust head pipe question 2010 bike 2009 exhaust
« on: September 24, 2009, 07:08:19 PM »

here it goes
i have a 2010 ultra limited with stock cat head pipe.
say like everyone else i buy a 09 head pipe w/o the cat
the questions are......

what happens w/ my smaller 02 sensors?

do i cap the 09 02 sensor ports since they are up near the heads, then drill and weld in the smaller bungs?

if so should my 02 sensors be at or near the stock location?

will there be a check engine light it using the 02's and no cat?

i don't want any drive-ability issues/warning codes to be set off.

I'm just looking to get the cat off and have (i hope) way less heat.

thanks

Ben

Instead of doing all that O2 sensor work, take the pipe off and send it over to Steve at Fullsac and have him remove the cat. You will still have your stock pipe, no cat and no O2 sensor issues.

www.fullsac.com

He does quality work and is a good guy. Do a search on the board and you will find nothing but good things aobut him and his work.

try this, I did it on a customers 2010 ltd. leave head pipe alone, go with a good free flow slip on like rinehart, stage 1 A/C like a big sucker and then tune it. i recommend a TTS mastertune. runs nice. good sound, low temp.

i thought about sending it in to Steve.

there still is question of no cat and two 02 sensors.

will it cause any drive ability issues or engine lights?

i was also going to add a tune/intake even thought about sending my mufflers  in to be recored.

but just don't want any fault codes or limp modes.

thanks for the help so far

Haven't heard anybody getting codes without the cat. The sensors are before the cat anyway so it should not make any difference. Maybe someone who has done it will chime in.

Are not the cats in the header pipes and the O2 sensors near the transmission downstream of the headers pipes? I guess if you go from the back of the exhaust to the front of the bike, it would be before the O2 sensors.

The O2 sensors are between the engine and the cat

The Cat is in the collector, not the head pipes.  The O2 sensors are just forward of the collector where the headpipes join together.  I left the stock head pipes (with cat) on my SESG and put the Vance and Hines Basic slippons on and did a Super SERT tune.  I haven't noticed any more heat issues than any of my other HD's and it has a nice low rumble to it now.

You will still have your stock pipe, no cat and no O2 sensor issues

Nope, would not agree
These 10 bikes are not as forgiving as the earlier models. Consider a cat back solution as others have suggested.

Vance & Hines and Bub are promising a 2010 headpipe setup in October.

Hey Guys!
The 2010 cat comes out just like the 2009. Same problem, same cure, same results. up 10HP and 10 TQ. All these concerns with crosstalk between the sensors. Out the window. I have done stage one Sleeper kits, dynoed and V tuned a 2010 103 Limited and a 2010 96" Ultra. No codes, no tuning issues, no problems, just happy owners.

Thanks Mike!
Just for the record, your 103 absolutely made more torque than the 96" 2010 that I did on Wednesday.
And he aint got heated grips!

I did some research, the grips are worth about 3 HP!
