I too installed them on my '03 Ultra Classic.  I would never do it again.  In my opinion, the handlebar mirrors are much better...better looking and better vision...

I put the Chubby 575's on my '07 Street Glide and had to go with handlebar mounted mirrors. The fairing mounted mirrors on my new SESG look great, but are going to cause me to get my ARSE run over. I've ordered the 575's and will get rid of the fairing mirrors.

Well this is the deal, screw that template for the mirrors. I road the bike trying to believe that I can get use to this, NAH NAH. I started over, re-drilled the holes and  moved the mirros out 1 inch. what a difference

Are you changing your inner fairing also, or just plugging the holes?  If you're changing your inner fairing, you might as well paint it, also.

And if you're changing it......I think Susan (wasjons) might be interested in buying your take off fairing.

**Edite** went to post a pic of the painted inner fairing and just realized that I don't have one with the ignition turned off (not showing the Dakota Digital gauges) so that you could get a better idea of what it might look like.

Another perspective.......

All the Nor Cal krew are saying that the painted inner fairing is what put my bike over the top and makes it look like a CVO.  It's the part the MoCo missed.........I think they owe us a partial refund.

So you just moved it over an inch, then covered the hole with a hole plug from the hardware store?  And that's hidden by the mirror itself.  Not bad.

While I switched to bar mounted mirrors (only because I went with taller bars), I don't understand what the problem is for everybody?  I'm 6'4" (now the doc says I'm 6'3") and I weigh 215-220 lbs. (up and down 5-10 lbs.) and I never had a problem seeing with the fairing mounted mirrors on Terrie's 09 SG or mine (before I changed the bars and mirrors). 

For those that have the problem.....are you adjusting them to your preference?  Are you just really huge guys and can't see past your own body?  Not to be offensive, just trying to understand where the problem is. 

I always adjust my left mirror where I can see the lane to my left, behind me and back to the center of the land that I'm in at a cars length or two back.  I adjust the right mirror to where I can see the right lane behind me and to the center of the lane that I'm in.  Does everybody else adjust their mirrors the same?

I didn't plug the holes; I guess I can use JB Weld. When I moved the holes, it is at the edge of the swivel post of the mirror. So the swivel piece is covering the old holes.

I'm 6'3" 230, it's the fact that I didn't need to see my hands. With it out more I get more visibility.

I never saw my hands in the SG mirrors.  Well, maybe just a small part of the tops of them......not enough that I even noticed or paid attention.

Is that the same issue that the rest of you have or had......can't see past your hands?

Don't get me wrong I could see traffic as well as my fingers, but by moving it over that eliminated the hands and increased the 9-6 and 3-6 position.

I have had both types of mirrors and I think with the bar mounted ones you get a much better view of the road behind you. I would never go back to the others even though they now have a small oval parabolic mirror mounted on the face
