06 CVO or 07 UltraClassic
« on: September 28, 2009, 09:02:34 AM »

I have an 07 UltraClassic and I`m torn as to whether to do some customizing or jump on an 06 CVO, as I`m seeing some of those go for $20k range. I could maybe sell my 07 for $17k. What are your thoughts?

The CVO will always be something special. You will never get all the money you put in to a regular model back.

The 06 Ultra would be a great choice. It still has the very dependable 103 motor. I think the only downfall of the 06 ultra is the leather tour pak!

Obviously you don't speak from experience. The leather Tourpack is what makes the '06/'07 different. Immediate recognition as they were they only two years to have them. The difference in storage capacity is about 2-3 pairs of jeans rolled up.

Go for the '06, all things being equal.

I have to agree with AJ...the leather tour pak is not a downfall.  That is what makes it distinguishable from a normal Ultra.   I have no problems with the leather tour pak.  Go for the '06, you won't regret it. :)

WOW great feedback. I do like the leather tourpack. I`ll have to start the process of trying to sell my 07 and see if I can`t become a CVO owner.

no offense but you will not get $17k in this market.

when I picked up my 2010 RG in Yakima HD (Owens), they had a new 2007 SEUC for sale at $27k+.   Ask for Don and he will give you a great deal.  Just tell him Vince, the guy that bought a new SE Fatboy and 2010 RG from him......

The SEUC was the white one...

:confused5:  ??? A white SE (Ultra) was only made in '08. What do you mean by new? Did it have less than 10 miles on it? Any thing over 10 is considered used. Retail on a non-Anniversary '08 SEUC is about $28.5K so $27K is a good deal for a low mileage bike.

AJ it is not the fact that it is leather that I dis like. IT IS THE WEIGHT OF IT!!! 50lbs to be exact! If I were to buy an 06 I would buy a KTP and have it painted to match. I have seen a few and really like them. But that is just my 2 cents.

I also agree with AJ you will not regret the CVO if you would have purchased the CVO you would only be looking at $6000 grand in upgrades -shocks, sound system, heated grips, new seat, HID lights..... ;D ;D ;D

I have never picked up a fiberglass tourpak but the leather tourpak is heavy - I guess I thought all tour paks were this heavy I would not change it out because I do Love how it looks but I wonder if the weight difference changes how the bike handles.  Naturally when I have the tourpak off the bike handle better without the weight.

At least you know it is a 2006 or 2007 CVO when you see the leather tour pack!
I didn't like it first, now the KTP looks like a box on the back of a bike, bulky.

I agree.  I like my 07 with the leather tour pak.  It makes it readily identifiable as a CVO and I just like the way it looks.

I beg to differ... I think it's the PAINT that readily identifies a CVO.  My personal opinion is that the leather TP looks very similar to what is available for the Softail Heritage or Road King Custom.  I waited till '08 to purchase a SEUC just to have a KTP.  A friend of mine however couldn't wait and this is what he did, (see photo attached) which I think looks great!  Just MHO of course.

I do however agree that you would be much further ahead purchasing the '06 CVO rather than customizing the '07 Ultra.  The CVO will always be something special and there are lots of custom Ultras in every parking lot.
