« on: October 01, 2009, 09:22:52 AM »

I purchaced the extnded warranty with the wheel and tires. I got only page one with the card. Can anyone tell me what the tire warranty covers? Just it just replace when the tire wears out? Does there have to be a prob with the tire. ???

The wheel/tire warranty does not replace a normally worn tire, only damaged and then there has to be useable tread left when you submit the claim.  (In other words, you can't run your tire until it's time to change it, put a nail in it and then make a claim.)  I think there has to be at least 9/32" of tread left for them to honor the warranty.  I've had three tires replaced due to "road hazards", two sheet metal screws in the front tires and a nail in the rear.  (All motorcycles I've owned have come with free magnets mounted inside the tires to attract all the metal road hazzards, just lucky I guess.  :nixweiss:)  All of these tires had useable tread left and were replaced at no cost to me.  The Wheel/Tire warranty will also cover any road hazzard damage to your wheels too.  Like if you hit a pot hole and it damages your rim, the warranty will cover that too.  Never had to use that portion of the warranty yet.

Hope this helps...

I thought there was a $50 deductible on tires and wheels or is that just for the motorcycle ? I have mine scheduled for service tomorrow to replace the front tire because of cupping. I told the service manager about the cupping issue with the "407" tire and requested the "408" as its replacement. He said the tire could be replaced but I'd have to pay a pro rated cost. When I told him I purchased the tire and wheel warranty, he said he'd have to look into it. What's the warranty do for me here ?

Why worry about the optional tire and wheel coverage, your '09 is obviously still under the original factory warranty and if the tire is defective it should be replaced under the original tire warranty.  The experts need to correct me if I'm wrong, but the optional ESP tire coverage is for road hazards (damage), not manufacturing defects or abnormal wear.

Jerry, You're absolutely correct.  The tire/wheel warranty does not cover MFG defects or normal wear.  The cupping would have to be covered under the manufacture's warranty as a defective product not a hazzard-caused item.

In the case of replacing the cupped tire, I'll be absolutely amazed if the dealer can get that covered under the tire/wheel warranty...

The $50 deductable is for the ESP, not the wheel/tire warranty...there is no deductable for those claims.   I speak from experience (3 times over.  ::) )

Thanks for clearing it up for me. My concern came from reading in hdforums about how difficult the Moco has been with the 407's cupping. From what they're saying, your bike has to be vibrating or they won't cover it. My front tire's cupping was measured by a dealer at 6000 miles but it wasn't enough difference in tread height for the MOCO to approve a replacement. It hasn't been measured since then but you can really feel it with your hand now. Unless it's my imagination, I can feel a slight wiggle when setting up for a turn and it's making a roaring sound (like wind). I canceled my service call today due to rain so I'll find out how they take care of it later.

Mike, I bought the second 407 at 9800 miles because they couldn't find a 408, when the second 407 cupped (and it will cup) I called  moco customer service. they paid for a new 408 !!!!!!

IMO you should not pay anything.. It was there bad not yours
